The Trail Inn - Newberry, MI - 13467 M-28

10/10 Excellent

"Our room was neat and comfortable. The water got hot REALLY fast! The showerhead was large and had great water pressure! The bed was more comfortable to me than my bed at home. Cleaning staff was always very pleasant. I was confused initially, as I had received a text at 2:45 saying my room was ready and I happened to be in the area, so I got there before 3pm. The lobby is locked until 3pm. Actually, according to my watch, it may have been 3:01 when it finally unlocked. That really was the only hitch in our stay. Maybe it's not the flashiest place to stay, but I'd definitely stay there again."

"The room was okay. The water pressure was horrible. Upon arrival they didn’t have my reservation. 15-20 minutes to confirm reservation. No breakfast. No one in office. Didn’t even sign anything for the room which, I found strange but needed to get back on the road. It was okay for the price and will probably stay again considering I have family in the area and choice of motels are limited. Just some strange series of events."

Historic Birch Lodge and Motel

"The Birch Lodge and Motel is a really neat place to stay. The setting is breath taking. When you book your reservation, do be aware that the lodge and the motel are separate settings. They are right next to each other but the lodge is the big white house, formerly a tuberculosis hospital, that was built in the early 1900's and has been remodeled. The owner showed us one of the guest rooms and it was lovely. The room even smelled really good but not in a fake way. The owners have incorporated a lot of history in a very chic way. The view from the room we saw was incredible, it faced Trout Lake and was stunning. We stayed in the motel which is a brick building to the side of the big white house. The motel section has many original features from the 60's but it is very clean. The room we stayed in had a mid century modern aesthetic which was done well. The carpet in that room was clean but worn. Everything felt clean and the bathroom was in very good shape. The owners allow guests to use their various kayaks and row boats though we did not use them. Once again, the setting is truly spectacular. We went to the Buckhorn for dinner. I got a pastie which was fantastic. My husband got a French dip which he said was the best he's ever had. I would definitely stay here again."

"I loved the hot tub and how friendly most of the staff was. Especially one of the older ladies at the check in she was very kind and helpful. I also loved how there was always delicious free freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and popcorn. I thought too that the gift shop in the hotel was super cute. I did however have mixed feelings on the way you had to request fresh towels, cleaning and your beds being remade etc. I understand them not wanting to bother the customers but I also never thought it was hard to hang the do not disturb on your room door."

"The Gitchie Gumie was truly amazing an did not disappoint in anyway. Waking w/ the sunrise and enjoying magic beans in the large mugs provided, enjoying breakfast in the well appointed kitchen, taking in the views in the Adirondack chairs ... all inspired me to paint a watercolor on the porch ... music and a glass of vino! Perfect. Had surf and turf on the grill, enjoyed the fireplace ... everyday dialing into relaxation ... comfortable beds, lovely well appointed bathrooms. Truly lovely. Only one small suggestion, please consider supplying martini glasses. With that ... I would rate 5 stars and will come back!Best,Lisa"
