La Barrière de Transinne

La Barrière de Transinne

10/10 Excellent
"The hotel is located at a roundabout in the middle of nowhere. The location was mostly beneficial to us, as we wanted to visit different places that were all within a reasonable driving distance. (Luxemburg, Dinant, Rochefort, Bastogne, Namur.) The service was good and the rooms were nice. The breakfast was remarkably good, among the best i can recall in terms of quality, though the selection was somewhat limited. The lady arranging the breakfast was particularly nice. Dinner at the restaurant was also fantastic. The restaurant requires reservations for dinner, but they still accommodated us the first night when we were unprepared. This place almost felt like a hidden gem, particularly at this price, though that is likely due to location. Even so there were a few things that bothered us a bit: the rooms are not well ventilated and the heat in the summer was unpleasant, though we did get a fan to mitigate this. Three out of four mornings we were woken up by noise outside in the mornings (we had the windows wide open). One morning it was the music at the patio 0730, the next it was hedge trimming at 0830, then it was the truck delivering supplies at 0630. All of this by the hotels services, there was also a garbage truck and some road noise (the speed limit outside is 70kph), but that is more or less as expected. Shutting the windows mostly cut off the noise enough to go back to sleep for a while longer."

Mercure Han-sur-Lesse

Mercure Han-sur-Lesse

8/10 Good
"Good, clean hotel in a tiny village. It made a good base for exploring the region. There's very little in the village itself other than the Grottes de Han but it's a nice, peaceful spot to return to after a day exploring. Staff were helpful. We experienced a few issues getting in and out of the expensive basement car park. While the EV chargers remain out of action, you may be better off looking for a spot at one of the publicly accessible chargers round the corner on Rue d'Hamptay. We liked having the little kitchenette facility in the family room but it would have been nice if it had been a little better equipped (I'm sure we could have asked for things), and I wasn't brave enough to try anything more than heating things up, as the hotel smoke alarm lurked a few feet away."

"Hotel was lovely clean and quiet with great amenities. Pool and spa were fun. Only negative was we booked a certain room and they didn’t have it available when we checked in so we ended up with 2 different rooms. It didn’t matter too much for one night tho. Friendly staff"

Les Sorbiers

Les Sorbiers

8/10 Good
"Enchanting property but rooms were average. Older but cozy. No elevator, no in room refrigerator or bottled water, no TV, no AC, no bug screens which were a serious issue given the heat wave and no AC. That said the price was very reasonable and the property is dreamlike so I'm glad to have been a guest."

These accommodations are typically set amidst the rolling hills and forests, offering beautiful views and a peaceful environment. This allows for relaxing walks directly from your doorstep and a real sense of being away from it all.Families might also find these outlying gîtes ideal, as they often come with more space, gardens, and amenities suitable for children.

The best time to go to Honnay is from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to September, when the weather is most suitable for outdoor activities.During these months, you can expect mild to warm temperatures and generally less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty around Honnay. The countryside is at its most vibrant, superb for walking, cycling, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings. For those keen on outdoor pursuits, July and August offer the warmest weather, which is superb for longer hikes in the Ardennes or visiting nearby attractions like the Caves of Han. The longer daylight hours also allow for more extensive exploration. If you prefer a quieter experience with pleasant weather and fewer crowds, May, June, and September are excellent choices.
