A trip to LA wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Tinseltown’s star-studded tribute to the movers and shakers of the entertainment industry.

There’s more to making it big in Hollywood than just getting your name up in lights. You’ll also need your name set in concrete, embedded in brass and set inside a coral-pink, terrazzo five-pointed star. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is probably one of the slowest moving pavements in LA. Pedestrians they take their time, their eyes and camera lenses pointing downwards studying the famous celebrities who’ve made television and music history. This star-studded pavement covers 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and a few of its neighbouring streets. The City has been immortalising the famous since 1960, when it was used as a way of luring visitors to an area that was fast losing its sparkle. To date, the city has added more than 2,400 names some stars have faded from public consciousness while others have stood the test of time.Underneath each honouree’s name, you’ll find one of five symbols which represent the part of the entertainment industry they belonged to. The symbols are a motion-picture camera, a television set, a radio microphone, a theatrical mask or a music record. You’ll also notice that the stars don’t all face the same way. This is deliberate so that visitors walking in both directions can see them easily. As you follow the trail of stars, you may find your walk slowed by celebrity impersonators and panhandlers, all vying for your tourist dollars.

Its not as good as you may think. I think everyone in LA has a star. Just a free piece of advise, ignore all the side shows & people trying to palm off cd's. They are a nightmare once you start dealing with them and won't leave you alone until you pay them!!!

The walk of fame was a little underwhelming, good to see but honestly not an awful lot to do in the area. There were a lot of people trying to sell you something - very touristy. And what wasn't touristy seemed to be run down and dirty. Did go to the El Capitan theatre while we were there to see Disney's 1991 Beauty and the Beast - this was fun! $10 a ticket and the theatre was beautiful with good seating, and they had Princess Belle there before the show began for photo opportunities with the kids (of all ages). She also did a small dance performance as the movie began, which the kids in the audience loved. It was a bit of an unexpected and special treat for our rewatch of a classic.
