The best area to stay in Hohenstein is the village centre, particularly around the historic Marktplatz (Market Square).

This charming area is the heart of Hohenstein, characterised by its traditional Austrian architecture and a relaxed pace of life. The Marktplatz itself is a focal point, often hosting local events and markets, and it's surrounded by family-run guesthouses and restaurants. From here, you're just a short stroll from the local bakery and the starting points for several scenic walking trails.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. It offers a romantic setting with picturesque streets and easy access to gentle countryside walks. You can enjoy quiet evenings at a traditional Heuriger (wine tavern) or explore the nearby Hohenstein Castle ruins for a touch of history.

Families will also appreciate the convenience and pleasant environment of the village centre. Hotels here are often well-equipped for children, with some offering gardens or play areas.

The best time to go to Hohenstein, Lower Austria, is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During these months, the weather is typically mild and agreeable, making it ideal for exploring the surrounding natural beauty and outdoor activities. You'll find the landscapes lush in spring or adorned with beautiful autumnal colours, great for hiking or cycling along the Traisen River. These periods also generally avoid the peak summer tourist rush, offering a more relaxed experience.

For those interested in local culture and wine, early autumn is particularly rewarding. This is often harvest season in the region, providing opportunities to visit local vineyards and taste regional wines.
