The Property When serenity beckons, “Poet’s Ode” is here. Located on the edge of the hamlet of Longley, the property is within reach of all the conveniences of the urban world (10 mins to Kingston town centre and less than 20 mins to Hobart’s CBD), yet far, far away in all other senses. As you drive onto the 15 hectares of private native bush, you can let go of all your worldly concerns - you have arrived. Nestled here in the foothills of kunyani/Mt Wellington is a sanctum of calm and an invitation to lose yourself in it. When you’re ready to brave the world, the Huon Valley, Bruny Island, Wellington Park natural reserve, untold numbers of waterfalls and southern beaches are at your doorstep.
If you’re not already feeling more at peace, let us introduce you to your accommodation and its amenities….
The Accommodation Spread open the double doors onto lawns manicured by our friendly marsupials and welcome the dappled morning glow right into your living room. This is a special little place. Curated by travellers for travellers, you’ll appreciate some of the details to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Hand-built from mud brick and local recycled timbers, character oozes from every notch and nook of this cosy cottage. Tastefully elegant, yet homely and impeccably clean, grab a rug from the selection and curl up on the sofa with a book and a hot mug of tea. Or take a trip into yesteryear in one of our grand antique reading chairs with a childhood classic. And when its time to wind down, snuggle into your super-comfortable Queen-size bed where the stars will send you on your way.
Poet’s Ode offers a basic kitchenette complete with a coffee machine, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and accoutrements. We offer you your choice of locally crafted soap, shampoo and conditioner bars from our unique, zero-plastic, bathroom platter.
Please note that whilst it primarily sleeps 2 persons (1 queen bed), we will happily add a single trundle bed for a child or that special “third wheel.” (for a small additional charge) The bedroom is up a flight of stairs while the bathroom and living space is downstairs. We can set the trundle bed in either space for you.
Donkey Shed Theatre With stars on the screen and stars overhead, a glass of wine and a rug, you may not want to leave your private movie theatre to go to bed. Situated right next door to your cottage, the Donkey Shed Theatre is rustic charm embodied. Our latest-tech, 4k mini-projector allows you to direct cast your favourite entertainment apps, movies, TV shows, sports and more from your own Android, Apple or Windows device right there. Make sure though you take a minute to enjoy the friendly marsupials who may well wish to watch with you.
Guest access This booking is for the entire cottage and all that the property has to offer. Poet’s Ode is a private space with its own independent living and sits with tasteful privacy from the main homestead where your hosts reside. Feel free to wander the gardens, sit by the pond or feed our beloved chickens.
The main homestead is our own private residence and we are generally around to ensure your stay is everything you are seeking (and hopefully just a little bit more!), to answer any questions and to prepare your sumptuous first meal of the day. We are a couple without children and without pets, living a quiet and peaceful existence. Whilst you may see us as we potter in the garden or move around the property, we are extremely mindful of this being your space also and wish to ensure that you have the privacy and solitude you deserve during your stay. Likewise, we hope you will enjoy the property peacefully.
We offer parking just metres from your door, all within our gated property. Other things to note
Complimentary Breakfast It’s in the name - this is a BnB after all. We take real pleasure in offering you a complimentary home-prepared breakfast.
The light larder When the yearn to never leave the place overwhelms the need to feed, our selection of gourmet soups and accompanying bread washed down by a complimentary bottle of wine should do the trick. We also stock a basic pantry of coffee, a range of handcrafted teas, fresh milk, oil and salt & pepper.
Children We will happily accommodate children but please be mindful of our pond - it is not fenced and the decor of Poet's Ode isn't set up for children. Monitoring will be necessary.

The place is very charming and welcoming. The bed and pillows are very comfy, and the living room area is cozy. We loved the abundance of animals you can spot around the property, the tranquility of the area, the purity of the water, and the lovely surroundings. There is a very charming old pub nearby that serves great meals, and a beautiful swimming hole just a short drive from the property. The complimentary bread at breakfast was delicious, and the communication with the hosts was excellent.
There is some room for improvement, as the property lacks blackout curtains in the bedroom, mosquito nets on the windows, a fan for hot days, a clothes rack to unpack and store your clothes, an extra bedside table on the other side of the bed, a heater that guests can regulate and switch on/off as needed, an extra set of towels (as they don’t fully dry between showers), a bit more soap/body wash, some paper towels or napkins in the kitchenette, and a proper sink for washing dishes.
The cottage was quaint and a restful place to take time out and relax. The breakfast was fresh and delicious a nice addition to our experience. We enjoyed seeing the pademelons on the property.
