About this property

Explore South Hobart Village from an 1855 Cottage

  • Channel the ambience of Hobart’s colonial past while living in comfort at this reimagined c1855 heritage cottage with shops, buses and humming eateries on your doorstep, and Hobart’s CBD attractions all within walking distance. Small but thoughtfully appointed, it features an open-plan living and dining space warmed by a cosy wood fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen, private covered terrace and rear lawn with views to Mount Wellington.
Evoking the ambience of a terrace house, you'll arrive at a striking red door that opens into the inviting dining and lounge area featuring a high-raked ceiling and skylight windows. Heating and cooling ensure comfort year-round. There's no TV, but a slow-combustion fireplace is perfect for cosy evenings at home playing games or flipping through the pages of your favourite book.

The timber-benched kitchen is equipped with a stove and a servery opening to the courtyard. Dine on the oak table or slip outside to discover a private covered courtyard with alfresco seating where you can enjoy breakfast as you breathe in the fresh Tasmanian air. From the backyard, take in stunning views of Mount Wellington with its peak occasionally iced with snow.

There’s a double bedroom and decorative fireplace on the entry-level, while internal stairs lead from the living space to a large loft-style bedroom with a queen bed. The bathroom is equipped with a timber vanity top and an enclosed shower. There’s no car space attached to the property, however, it’s easy to find all-day parking in one of the surrounding side streets within a super-short stroll of the residence. The shed houses an in-unit washer and dryer for your convenience.
During your stay, you and your group will have the entire cottage to yourselves. Please make yourselves at home!

Set between the Hobart CBD and the Cascade Brewery and historic Cascade Female Factory, this idyllic location is an entity in itself where you can pop next door to the famous Hill Street Grocers and sample or take home some of Tasmania’s finest fresh produce, step across the road to the trendy Bear With Me Café or stroll to shopping, city buses and humming eateries within a couple of minutes.

The popular Rivulet Track is only a two minute stroll away where you can walk through parkland by the water (keep an eye out for the native Paddymelons) to Cascade Gardens, Cascade Brewery and the historic Cascade Female Factory as well as the attractions in the Hobart CBD within 20 minutes in either direction. If you’re not up for a walk, buses stop just metres from the doorstep running regularly to both destinations and it’s only a few minutes’ drive either way by car.

However you get to the Hobart CBD it’s always worth it. The relaxed and easy going pace is perfectly suited to cruising around, taking in the sights and getting amongst its evolving hospitality scene. Check out the numerous landmark buildings and boutique restaurants, Salamanca Markets and its cosmopolitan riverside cuisine and social scene as well as Constitution Docks and the ferry wharf to MONA.

Tasmania’s renowned wilderness areas literally hug the city and there’s no better, closer or spectacular place to experience it than Kunanyi (Mount Wellington) where the panoramic views over Hobart and the mighty Derwent River are truly breathtaking. There’s also a host of bayside towns down to the south that are well-worth checking out.

Elegant, modern and incredibly central, it’s the ideal space to savour the true taste of Hobart.

Due to local regulations, we can happily host you for up to 90 nights. Any bookings that exceed this duration will be cancelled by Vrbo.

Please note, children until 8 are not permitted.
