House is a bit dated but fit our needs. Great spot to easily walk to the ocean, watch dolphins throughout the day, and not a far drive from good food (if you don't want to cook for yourself)Would be helpful to have a shovel to move sand from front steps to help reduce tracking it inside.
Hidden Gem is a lovely house. Very neat and clean. Outstanding location with beautiful ocean views and a very short walk to the beach. The house is very spacious and very comfortable. Be sure to take all kitchen condiments, personal care products, extra paper towels, trash bags with you. We look forward to a repeat vacation at Hidden Gem.
Had a wonderful stay at Hidden Gem. Spacious, beautiful house with magnificent views of the ocean inside the house and on the decks. Short walk to the beach. Restaurants, grocery stores, shops and ferry ride to Ocracoke short driving distances. Would love to stay again.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The location certainly can’t be beat. The house is very old and shows it’s age, and not much has been done to preserve it. However the location made that okay.
This is a fantastic location. The house is spacious and comfortable. The driveway is a little rough but no problem for four wheel drive. Pet friendly is a key priority.
This place was very clean, comfy furniture and beds. Kitchen was well stocked! Only wish for me, because I am short, would have liked to have a high seated chair on the deck so I wasn't looking at the railing when I was sitting out there. Also, an umbrella for the upper deck would be very useful.
The location was bueateful, it sits infront of the houses beside it. House was cleaned nicely. The house is old, it does lack some random items, like kitchen supplies. Very nice though!
This property sits at the base of the beautiful Hatteras coastal dunes and has great views of the beach and dunes in both directions from the top floor. The great room on the top floor was perfect with a comfortable space and wonderful 180 degree views. The middle floor sitting room provides additional living space to read, relax or watch TV - a nice feature.
The property is a little dated but was extremely clean, and the location and views more than make up for it. The outdoor shower was nice to have when coming in from the beach.
The unit is close to the Hatteras Lighthouse and Okracoke Ferry (visiting Okracoke Island is a great little day trip!). There are several good restaurants close by, don’t miss having chowder at Hatteras Sol- delish!
Adjacent properties site farther back and are not visible from either deck, and noise is nonexistent most of the time
Care is needed when parking in the sand driveway because blowing sand can cause some deep spots
Would definitely stay here again !
Was looking for 4 bedroom, 3+ bath property as close to ocean as possible and this location was it. Short distance over dunes was slightly difficult for my elderly mother, but we were able to manage getting her on the beach a couple of times.
Beds were decent, view from house was great. Really enjoyed lounging on the porch and viewing the Milky Way, each night.
Customer service was very prompt and friendly.
House could definitely use some updating and TLC. Don’t count on bath body wash and shampoos to be full, take your own, along with extra washcloths and towels. Outside Trash cans were 2/3rds full when we arrived and smelled like rotten fish. So they were overflowing when we left. That may be due to arriving on a Saturday and leaving on Thursday. I believe trash is picked up Thursday.
Overall, we had a great stay.
Great location and views. It’s a quiet area perfect for a getaway. The house is older and has not been updated. Inside the bathtub doors there was mold.
The carpet had visible stains. The rest of the house was pretty clean. Just some attention to detail. Did not have a hair dryer. Asked before I arrived and they said they provide one. Requested one when I arrived and never received it. Had to go buy one.
The stay was nice overall. It is located in a beautiful area.
Very spacious. All needs were acceptable. View of the ocean wonderful.
Had problems with the TV. No signal. Everyday no one ever came even though contact person kept saying someone would show. This went on the whole week we were there. Said something about a running toilet and bath drain. That was another issue never looked at either.
This was a very disappointing VRBO stay. The listing was not accurate, as the property isn’t isolated but surrounded by other homes. Moreover, the property is neglected and rundown. Very little maintenance has occurred for years. Apart from the mold in the showers, non working lights and dry rot in the windows, the most concerning aspect was the indifference from the property managers, KEES. They clearly do not care, as I sent a list of items to be fixed / remediated (grill broken/no gas, used sanitary pads in laundry, missing light bulbs, running toilet in master bath) on the Monday of our stay and when we left on the Friday we had not had any communication from KEES. See photos below of mold and dry rot. I would not recommend this property to anyone, and I will never do business with KEES property management ever again. They should be ashamed of themselves. I’d recommend VRBO remove this listing or at a minimum audit the listing for accuracy, because it is no where near what is the description.
We had been through a lot as a family and could not wait to really get away. The property appears very pretty online, but the picture of it being remote and away from other properties is completely inaccurate. There are two other large homes that are right next to this house. If that were the only issue that is not a problem at all, just inaccurate. When pulling into the property with our camper, we got stuck in the sand. If you don’t pull in just right, where there is some rock, you will get your entire vehicle stuck. Fortunately, the neighbors saw our distress and began pushing the front of our RV. By the grace of God, we are able to get out.The driveway itself is hazardous as there is an exposed ground wire. We weren’t sure if it was electrical or cable, but it really doesn’t matter either way. A person could trip on it or run over it. There’s about 4 1/2 to 5 feet of exposed wire please see photo. If those two situations were hazard enough, there’s the wash station located at the bottom of the stairs before you go to the beach. There is a short garden hose located next to a light switch where you can wash your fish or the sand off your feet, etc. my daughter, husband and myself all got shocked electrically when operating the switch. Fortunately, we weren’t seriously hurt. The kitchen has no oven mitts or hot pads. The only other thing to use are the towels throughout the house. If the towels aren’t folded, just right though you get burned, which was what happened to me
