Hop aboard South Korea’s longest cable car to experience panoramic coastal views on the way to the peak of Mount Mireuksan.

Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the Hallyeo Waterway Observation Cable Car. This cable transport provides easy access to the peak of Mount Mireuksan and doubles as a scenic lookout. Along the way and from the mountaintop, enjoy a 360-degree view of South Korea’s stunning southern coast and the dramatic Busan skyline.

The cable car is located in the Hallyeo Waterway National Park. The park covers a large area of the coastline and islands surrounding Busan and is visited by millions of tourists each year.

Mount Mireuksan lies south of Tongyeong and rises 461 metres (1,512 feet) above the surrounding Pacific Ocean. Hop on the cable car and ride 1,975 metres (6,480 feet) to the mountain peak, a distance that takes 9 minutes to cover. At the top, climb the stairs to the mountain lookout for the best views of the area. Stop at the small restaurant at the upper station for a snack and an energy boost.

Cast your gaze to the north of the lookout to see Tongyeong nestled against the coastline and bordered by forested hills. To the south, over 150 islands decorate the coastline and the horizon. When the sky is clear, look to the southeast for the outline of Japan’s Tsushima Island, a remote settlement around 80 kilometres (50 miles) away.

Each car on the cable is labelled with a unique name. During the popular tourist months in summer, expect to share your 8-seat car with other guests if you’re travelling in a smaller group. Both the Hallyeo Waterway National Park and the cable car charge entry fees. With the quality of the view dependent on weather, check the forecast ahead of your visit.

Get to Tongyeong by road or ferry from Busan. Buses provide access to the lower station of the Hallyeo Waterway Observation Cable Car. There is free parking. The cable car operates all year with rides leaving from mid-morning until early evening.
