"Roaches. Hair in the tub. Window unit that kept shutting off and had hair caked around side of contr panel. Continental breakfast included no protein. Non-smoking room reeked of smoke. Not sure where the glowing reviews came from. Only reason I didn't give it 1 star was front desk staff was nice. And I've stayed in worse--straw mattress on the floor, hole in the floor for communal bathroom with wash bucket for toilet paper in 1971. Ah, the good old days"
Lakeside 3BR Retreat Surrounded by Woods in Phil Campbell, AL
10/10 Excellent
"Such a beautiful and cozy cabin. We had a very relaxing time here . When we arrived there was a lot of debris around the outside entrances of the cabin from either the windy conditions or the landscapers not cleaning up after trimming around the cabin. We did not want to track it all through the beautiful house bringing our luggage and other things in so my husband spent an hr sweeping all outdoor areas so we could enjoy them to the fullest. Also we noticed both propane tanks for the grill were empty. I contacted the host/owner and she immediately offered her apologies and gave us a refund for one nights stay. We did not expect that but it was very nice of her and we appreciated it. She also sent her father n law with two full propane tanks the first full day we were there. I would Deff recommend staying at this beautiful cabin. It has everything you could want or need to enjoy some time away. The spiral stairs were a little bit of a challenge especially carrying our luggage up and down them but we made it work. We hope to come back again when we need some down time. It was only an hr away from our home so it was an easy getaway . Thank you, Megan for sharing your home with us and for helping us get settled during the first 24 hrs. Pat H May 1, 2026 "

"Absolutely amazing! We stayed the weekend in Fayette for an event in Tuscaloosa and the location was perfect. Country setting with several restaurant options. The house was honestly a gem. So much beauty and character. The house was clean and the beds were all super comfortable! Kitchen had everything you needed for cooking family meals and there were plenty of towels and linens. The hostess was very communicative and super sweet. Our two children absolutely loved the home. I’m so glad we could stay in such a beautiful piece of history. They’ll remember this stay always. Trust me- book it :)"
"I stay in a rental almost every weekend (because of travel baseball) and I have never written a bad review. Myra contacted me through the vrbo app shortly after booking and said that there would be an extra charge for additional people of 15 per night. I said let me know how to pay, I just didn’t want the reservation canceled. She stated not to worry about it, just don't let the kids jump on all of the beds and we would call it even. Prior to check in, I was not 100% on our final total of people but was very upfront with her about who I thought was coming and the intent to pay the 15 extra. Then at 11pm, she contacted me on my private cell (outside of vrbo) and told me she saw how many people we had via a camera on property and wanted me to verify. I told her it was inappropriate to contact me at that time and to just please let me know how to pay the money so we could be done with that conversation. She told me it’s now 120 & put oncounter in cash. Which is obviously over our discussed amount but said it was actually 15 pp/per night. Then, on the second night, an electrical outlet was malfunctioning and Google said to turn off the breaker immediately. We looked everywhere for the breaker box and couldn't find it (it is hidden behind a picture), so we contacted Myra. She started yelling at me and said "I can not wait till you are out of my house!!" So yes, your house is beautiful, yes it is clean. But we will NEVER return! be aware of hidden fees & host volatility"
