Three couples, cousins, stayed two nights at the Castello to explore Assisi and Gubbio. My wife and I and our young children stayed at the castle in 1998. We all thought it was special. Since then we have now been again twice and the experience has only gotten better and better! Highly recommend for an extremely unique experience in Umbria with much to see a in the area.

Vi kände oss väl omhändertagna på slottet med service i världsklass. Slottet hade fina salonger, rummet kändes nyrenoverat, och man var omringad av vacker natur. Vi var nöjda med frukosten och middagen. Emellertid saknade vi möjligheten att äta lunch ifall man stannade hela dagen på slottet. Personalen erbjöd oss vid dessa tillfällen att ta med mackor från frukosten, vilket fungerade bra. Poolområdet var fräscht och uppskattat under de varma dagarna. Hotellet anordnade två middagar ute på borggården, en grillkväll med stjärnskådning, och en vanlig middag. Båda tillställningarna var väldigt trevliga.

Atmosfera medievale sotto il firmamento!

Volevo visitare da tempo questa location e mi incuriosiva il castello. Così io e la mia amica abbiamo approfittato dell’evento con l’astronomo(fantastico lui e l’evento)per due gg al castello di petroia situato sotto uno dei 10 cieli più belli d’Italia,riflessione che condivido al 100%per la magia che si apre appena cala la notte.

Skønt paradis på toppen af et bjerg

Vi blev opgraderet til en stor og lækker suite med udsigt over gårdspladsen. Service på stedet var super. Maden vsr god og de lagde et stort engagement i at give en aekstraprdinær spiseoplevelse. Poolen var ikke helt ren, men det var også svært at holde ren med fluer. Vi havde poolen for os selv det meste af tiden dog.

Relaxing castle experience

About 20 minutes drive outside of Gubbio and up a mountain, the Castello provides a unique hotel stay. Our room was in a building inside the walls. It was quite large with a very roomy bathroom with both large tub and separate shower. Beams, stone walls and wooden shutters contributed to the castle atmosphere. Just steps away,at the entry to the castle itself is the door to the restaurant or up the stairs is the breakfast room/common area-both with wood burning fireplaces. Arriving in late afternoon on a November day, we were treated to our own personal fire while we ordered an aperitif. Later on we had a delicious dinner by another fire in the dining room. Do not pass up any dishes available that include truffles or mushrooms. The fish entree was also outstanding. Our server handled multiple tables with ease while also being quite helpful with our questions. We chose to eat in the restaurant both evenings that we stayed at the castle and were glad that we did.The housekeeping staff do an excellent job with cleanliness and are quite attentive. Our room was spotlessly clean during the time we took for breakfast. We were given outstanding service by the front desk also. From a welcoming reception which included a personal tour and escort to the room to contacting a hotel in another city to get information on finding a Covid test for our return flight to the USA, the front desk personnel offered excellent service. We would certainly stay again

A lovely castle stay

Wonderful surroundings and views. A very quiet place besides the motos on the road far away. The service was excellent, the room very good, and there are a lot of possibilities for either hiking or just relaxing on the premises, like next to the pool.

We loved Castello Di Petroia Relais! We arrived after 7:30 pm. It was somewhat hard to find, especially at night but our host, Lucia, called on our way and asked if we needed help and if we would like to have dinner that evening. It made us feel as though someone cared and was watching out for us. She greeted us with a smile and her radiant charm. She made us feel so welcome. Lucia showed us around a little that evening but the next morning gave us a full tour. The grounds and the castle were exquisite- old but beautifully decorated. Our room was lovely- very spacious complete with a jacuzzi tub! Only bathtub we’ve had on our 3 week trip. The highlight (there were many) was the dining room and the breakfast room. I am a foodie and the meals we enjoyed were beyond great. Hard to describe, but delicious isn’t good enough. We have not had a dining experience in our time in Italy that equaled our meals there. This castle was extraordinary. We would only come back to Italy if we could make it our main stay and tour from there.

Must stay when in Italy

Amazing castle! Such a unique place, we are definitely coming back. Room was huge, breakfast was one a a kind, tasty with a lot of choices. Castle atmosphere is everywhere. Location is super! Thank for this experience. Also, customer service is 10 out of 10. Everyone did everything to make customers happy.

We came to Gubbio to meet our Italian cousins for the first time. Architect, archaeologist, and new high school graduate kid. What a beautiful place- lovely historic or adapted-historic rooms. Art- so much art on all the walls. Delightful breakfast room and delicious breakfast with many choices. A lovely restaurant where we took a long leisurely dinner with our cugini. Everything was so perfect. Fresh clean swimming pool out on the hillside with amazing views. Excellent and thoughtful service when my husband had a medical issue and we needed to stay an additional day and take a late breakfast. Large room with a huge bath, loft, AC, and lovely views. Peaceful and calm after Florence and Venice. Absolutely would return. Grazie!

Beautiful Stay in Umbria

What a great experience to be able to stay in a 13th century castle! Everything was just perfect. Our room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast was filling and enjoyed with breathtaking views of the countryside, and walking around the grounds made you appreciate the peacefulness and never want to leave! They also have a parking lot with plenty of spaces for guests just next to the main entrance. Make sure to check out te chickens and keep your eyes open for the many castle cats!

Absolutely outstanding location, accommodations, and staff went above and beyond. The owner and his wife were very open and involved in operations, sharing the history and background of the castle. Restaurant evening meal was excellent!

Posti splendido, immerso nel verde in un castello dalla bellezza da lasciare il fiato. Personale estremamente cortese e cordiale, pronto ad assecondare le esigenze del cliente. Ideale per relax e viaggio romantico, oltre ad essere non distante da posti splendidi come Gubbio, Assisi, Città di Castello e Perugia. Unico neo: rapporto qualità-prezzo un po'eccessiva nel reparto ristorante. Cibo buono ma non eccelso, anche se la location nella quale si mangia è a dir poco incantevole.

Beautiful relaxing and tranquil!

My wife and I had just spent a hectic two days in Venice when we came to this peaceful place with wonderful hosts. The pool was gorgeous and well maintained. We walked for hours amongst the 700 acres of trails. We left after two days wishing we could stay longer. Next time we will spend the week.

Spændende hotel i et spændende område, meget venligt personale. Stedet holder fast i fortiden, hvilket også ses på møblementet. God restaurant, men kedelig morgenbuffet. Godt sted til afslapning, men efteråret kommer lidt tidligt her.

Wonderful Umbria base

Loved our week stay. The castle and grounds are beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful and most kind. The complimentary breakfast was a fresh feast each morning and the evening dining was very good. I would urge potential clients to peruse the room selection carefully. We had some issues and as the hotel is small and full, would have made better choices. Some are more comfortable than others. One would also want an outside landscape view as it is spectacular

Castle in the Countryside

We loved our stay at Castello di Petroia! All of the staff were lovely and helpful with any request we had. The restaurant (by reservation at the front desk by the afternoon day of) was excellent. We were fortunate enough to be in residence during an "AstronItaly" event which included our evening meal and an astronomy event out by the pool in the evening. LOVELY!!! We will definitely go back to Petroia again - I actually cannot wait. Well worth the price. Pros: Location (Excellent for sightseeing in Umbria), Staff, Views of the Valley, Food, Overall Ambiance, Size of Room, Updated Bath Cons: Only con I have is the lack of A/C. We were comfortable with a fan (provided in room) but I could see that it might get uncomfortable during a very hot day
