My wife and I stayed at Cayo Loco from 4/30/16 - 5/7/16, and i'm already looking to go back.
LOCATION: The home is centrally located on the island, which is perfect if you plan to explore the island and enjoy the isolated beaches. It's a 5-10 minute right from GHB airport, easy to get to (turn into Sky Beach Resort and drive towards the ocean and make a left on "Banks Rd", cay loco is 1/4 mile away). It is conveniently located near Gov Harbour which has every grocery, gas, cash and alcohol necessity. Cayo Loco has 3 homes on the property, the beach front bungalows are called Sand Dollar (where we stayed) and Apocolypso, although next to each other, the manicured vegetation makes for nice privacy
HOME: Sand Dollar is neatly appointed with every amenity you need from spices, utensils, pots/pans, oven, dishwasher, ice cube trays/ice packs, wifi, satellite TV (NY stations local). Maureen is a great host and is very informative, listen to her advice; everyone on the island knows her and helps you. The locals are all kind and treat everyone nicely. The beach in front of the home is perfect, a quick walk down a flight of stairs and your on the beautiful beach which has 3 separate reefs great for snorkling.
My advice to anyone is rent a durable 4x4 with sufficient ground clearance, a Jeep Wrangler is perfect. Other than Queens Highway, the roads are rough and difficult to travel but worth it, the nicest beaches are the hardest to get to. Bring strong bug repellent, we had quite a few bites but it was manageable with deet based spray.
My wife and I are 32 from NJ, we wanted to "get off the grid" but have some of the conveniences of home and Cayo Loco is the perfect medium, absolutely perfect home thats well maintained by a gracious host.
RESTAURANTS: Rainbow Inn on pizza night (Monday) is a must (NJ has the best pizza and I was impressed with the food). Pascals is very convenient with great food, close to Cayo Loco and they have great food. Govenours Harbour fish fry on Friday is great, everyone comes out and drinks/parties. LeoRose beachfront restaurant in James Cistern is amazing, stop there if headed north. Hiring Jeremy and Anna is worth it, they come to the home and make an amazing dinner from locally sourced food.
