This is a very old style hotel, but, unlike others, is properly maintained in this style, with high quality decoration. The only drawback is it doesn't lend itself to air conditioning! Front desk was friendly and helpful, location is in the heart of the city's excellent transport system and the breakfast was first rate!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Eggers. The location is extremely convenient, directly beside Gothenburg Central Station and within easy walking distance of most of the city center. For travelers arriving by train or wanting easy access to transportation, it would be hard to beat. For leisure travel, I personally preferred the atmosphere a little farther into the city, particularly around Stora Saluhallen and the surrounding streets. The immediate area around Central Station is understandably busier and a little grittier, while we found ourselves repeatedly walking toward the Saluhallen area because we enjoyed the atmosphere there so much. That’s entirely personal preference though, and Eggers is certainly very centrally located. The hotel itself has a wonderful old European character that was a really nice change of pace for us, since we typically stay in newer, more modern hotels. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the historic style gives the hotel a personality that you simply don’t get from a modern chain hotel. I also can’t say enough good things about the front desk staff. Everyone we encountered was incredibly sweet, kind and helpful. They were genuinely lovely people and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Breakfast was excellent, with a very extensive buffet that had pretty much everything my partner and I could want.

If you love old classic hotels, you'll love eggers. It's a bit worn around the edges and things could certainly be rehabbed, but it's nice. There is no truly great hotel in Gothenburg.

Hotel Eggers was a great start to our vacation. Located at Gothanburg central station, it's so convenient. It's a safe area and very close to many shops/malls and restaurants. The rooms are a fantastic throwback to an older period, thinking of something late 1800s to the early 1920s. Adequately large for a couple, we took the king bed room. Everything was comfortable and functional. We even got little chocolates. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Honestly one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had. Coffee or tea as you like it, a huge selection. Such a great cereal bar, an egg station, and cuts of meat/herring, a selection of fruit, and juices. A very nice start to our day. One small thing, completely understandable, was there no air conditioning. Would not have been a problem except there was a heat wave (yay, global warming) and we didn't get much sleep because it was so hot in the room. Keeping in mind that this is Sweden though, so normally there wouldn't be need of AC. We brought our portable fans (Amazon!) so it was OK after 1am. But don't let that stop you. The staff was above and beyond. Exceptionally flexible, kind and friendly. Would highly recommend.
