The best area to stay in Góntar is the historic Old Town, particularly around the Plaza Mayor and Calle Mayor.

This central area is the heart of Góntar, characterised by its pedestrian-friendly cobbled streets, traditional Castilian architecture, and a lively option. You'll find a wide selection of boutique hotels housed in renovated historic buildings, along with numerous tapas bars, restaurants, and local shops. The Plaza Mayor, a grand arcaded square, is the focal point, often hosting local events.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing for its romantic setting and convenience. Strolling hand-in-hand through the narrow streets, discovering hidden courtyards, and enjoying an evening meal at a traditional restaurant creates a memorable experience. The proximity to landmarks like the Góntar Cathedral and the Alcázar makes sightseeing effortless.

For those travelling with family, staying slightly outside the immediate bustle of the Plaza Mayor, but still within the Old Town, offers a good balance. Areas just off Calle Mayor, towards the city walls, often have hotels with a bit more space and a quieter feel in the evenings.

The best time to visit Góntar is generally during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly mild, with comfortable temperatures great for exploring the region's historical sites and natural beauty. You'll avoid the intense heat of the summer and the cooler, sometimes wet, conditions of winter. This makes it ideal for activities like walking tours through the old town or visiting the vineyards.

Couples often find these seasons particularly appealing for a romantic getaway. The softer light of spring and autumn enhances the scenic landscapes, and many of the local eateries and bodegas are less crowded, allowing for a more intimate experience. You can enjoy al fresco dining without the summer rush.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the milder weather, as it makes outdoor excursions more manageable and enjoyable for everyone.
