The buffet breakfast was terrific!

We had an incredible stay at the Essex House last week with our two kids (one is 7 and the other turned 4 on our trip). We booked the king suite, thinking that even though it's NYC and the room will likely be small, it would be the best option for a family of 4. We were SHOCKED at the size of the suite! Not only was it enough room for all of us, it was downright roomy! We had plenty of space for our stay. The amenities and cleanliness of the hotel are superior, room service was delicious (if expensive), and best of all...the guest relations team sent a special surprise gift to our room for our 4 year olds birthday. They sent him balloons, two pieces of cake, and a bag full of stuffies and goodies. He was THRILLED and we were so touched by the thoughtfulness. Both of our kids have already asked if - not only can we go back to New York - but can we stay at the Essex House again! The location was incredible and overall the Essex House played a big part in how wonderful and effortless our trip was. Already looking at dates in the Spring to visit again! Thank you Essex House and your wonderful staff!

The staff were nice but the place is totally run down. The carpets are stained and nasty, there is mould everywhere and it has not been well maintained in decades it seems. The main floor is dark and dingy and the restaurant is long closed but tables remain. This place has seen better days. It will likely be shut down soon it seems.

This is by far the worst hotel I’ve stayed at thank good it was only a day l. The toilet didn’t flush and the two remotes to the tv didn’t work so I had no tv. And to top it off I was locked out of my room customer support saying my room was 307 when I was in 311 the whole night so they locked my door till a front desk person I assume came. I waited an hour for them to come. Never again will I come here. I deserve a credit or partial refund for the inconvenience.

The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of many landmarks, shops, and restaurants. Our room was on a high floor, small but comfortable and bright. We would have appreciated a comforter, as the only blanket provided was quite thin. A big shoutout to the kitchen staff and room attendants, who work so hard to keep everything running smoothly. Breakfast was decent, and although it gets very busy, they have a good system in place to keep things moving. The staff really deserve credit for all their hard work!
