About this property

Thaddeus Stevens' Gettysburg Log Home

  • Be our guest in a beautiful piece of American history! Built in 1790, this log home exemplifies a page from our history books with original wood floors, walls and beams. Located just 5 minutes walk from downtown, Lincoln Square, the home was once owned by Thaddeus Stevens and sits with a front seat view of where the Confederates occupied West Middle Street during the Battle of Gettysburg. The home, while keeping it's historic character, also contains modern conveniences (central air conditioning, recessed lighting, fully updated kitchen and baths, etc.). The Thaddeus Steven's house has 3 cozy bedrooms (upstairs, 2queen, 1full) and 1 & 1/2 bathrooms. Perfect for a couple, family or group of friends! Join us in this gorgeous historical home as you explore Gettysburg! **Please keep in mind the home was built in a time, when people were smaller. Ceilings and doorways are low. The floors slant and creak. The closet space is limited. And the home may not be functional for people with certain physical mobility issues. Appreciate where you are--transported to a special time--imagine yourself in another era! Enjoy Gettysburg!

Great location

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cabin. It was like borrowing a friend's special house. Host was very easy to communicate with, and check in instructions were clear, friendly, and helpful. Grocery store is super close, and it's less than a 10 minute walk to the center of town. Good off street parking, easy to get to and perfect location as home base for visiting all the historical sites.

Great and accurate description on the Internet. Great location walking distance to everything. I would only recommend that it has a dehumidifier as it was very humid and damp in there.

Wonderful historic building close to downtown Gettysburg. Stairs to second floor difficult to navigate for an older person. Hospitality by owner was excellent. Giving up a few amenities to be in such a historic setting was well worth it!

Historic Home

Nice historic home in the heart of Gettysburg. Read the description as it is very accurate. We stayed during a hot spell so the upstairs was a little warm but the provided fans helped. Everything needed was provided. Make sure to read the logs of previous guests. Overall a great stay would recommend to others.

Girl reunion after 40+ years

Thaddeus Steven’s House was a warm welcoming home from the past. We enjoyed the ambiance of that history and yet had all the modern conveniences we are used to. We liked sitting out on the patio for coffee in the morning and coming back to relax after visiting the Gettysburg sites. The hosts are attentive and accessible for questions. Highly recommend.

Genuine log cabin

As advertised, very rustic. Clean and neat. What you would expect in a 240 year old log cabin. But everything functioned and we were perfectly comfortable.

Historic Cabin in great location

Great location. A true historic gem and experience. The AC worked great, and it’s so charming. It’s a notorious relic—expect creaky floors, low door frames, and a true cabin. But it’s great. Well stocked, easy check in and nice outdoor space. Only suggestion is it needs better mattresses on beds. Kind of hard—bearable, but could be better! Overall really loved it though!
