The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world, home to over 120,000 creatures from around 500 different species. The vast displays contain sea water and fresh water, in which you’ll see everything from sharks and whales, to jelly fish and crabs.
The Ocean Voyager display is the largest of the tanks, with four whale sharks, the largest species of fish in the world, are the main attraction. They are joined by graceful manta rays, along with thousands of other fascinating fish. Walk along the 30-metre underwater viewing tunnel to get as close to these creatures as you can without actually getting wet.
Discover the diversity of life in the world’s fresh-water river systems at the River Scout exhibit. Get a close look at the razor-sharp teeth of a piranha, look out for the albino alligators or spot the emerald tree boa resting in the branches above.
Head to the Tropical Diver gallery, home to one of the largest living coral reef exhibits in the world. You’ll be mesmerised by the thousands of jewel-coloured fish darting about the delicate coral, whilst the waves crash down overhead.
Don’t miss the interactive Georgia Explorer gallery, where you’ll find many different touch pools full of starfish, shrimp, horseshoe crabs and stingrays. This is particularly popular with younger visitors.
You can make advance reservations for the highly popular Dolphin Tales show, held twice a day and four times on Saturdays. This 30-minute spectacle features trained dolphins performing to a superb musical score, accompanied by costumed (human) performers and elaborate special effects.
The Georgia Aquarium is open every day of the year. Tickets can be bought online and the price includes the Dolphin Tales show, as well as any temporary exhibitions. The closest train station is Philips Arena/CNN Center, and a limited number of parking spaces are available nearby.
