Zimmermannshaus Est 1878
Built in 1878, Zimmermannshaus is a remodeled coastal cottage at the edge of the Lost Bayou Historic District in Galveston, Texas. Four blocks from the beach and nine to The Strand, it’s conveniently located close to everything the Oleander City has to offer. The space The three-bedroom, two-bathroom 1900 Storm Survivor house was constructed by a German carpenter, and the wood flooring, stairwell, window sills, and kitchen ceiling are original. Offered as a short-term rental for guests near and far who want to experience old-world craftsmanship with modern comforts, it can accommodate up to 12 people.
The home features a fully stocked kitchen, appliances, smart television, high-speed wifi, full-size washer and dryer, and an outdoor deck with chairs. A tankless water heater means plenty of warm showers and baths. With everything you need for a memorable vacation, all you have to do is kick back and relax.
One upstairs guest bedroom contains two full beds, while the other has two full beds and a trundle daybed with two twins. As a classic Galveston one-and-a-half, please understand second-floor rooms have eight-foot ceilings. The first-floor primary bedroom has high ceilings and a king bed with a comfortable SEAQUALTM mattress, which is made from recycled marine litter.
Both bathrooms are on the first floor. One is connected to the master bedroom, while the other is accessed from the hallway off the living room.
The Surroundings
At Zimmermannshaus, we’re passionate about Galveston’s beaches and bay. Stay with us to see bottlenose dolphins on a harbor cruise tour or migratory birds at the beaches and wetlands. If luck prevails, maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of an endangered sea turtle nesting in the sand. Those up for adventure should check out the tall ship Elissa. This three-masted barque is one of the oldest ships sailing today.
Just outside the cottage is a bike path that extends from bay to beach. It provides easy access to restaurants, the Pleasure Pier, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the East End Historic District, which contains many historically significant and architecturally stunning buildings. Examples include Bishop’s Palace, Moody Mansion, Ashton Villa, and the Old Red Museum. Stroll down these streets, and you’ll see homes with elaborate Greek Revival and Victorian architecture.
A short drive away is Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn Galveston, and the Galveston Naval Museum, which offer incredible experiences for children and the young at heart. Galveston Island State Park and other stretches of beach are not too much farther.
