The Rollason River Retreat - Four Bedroom Home with Game Room and Boat Access
Gemini said If you are bringing the whole family or a big group of friends to the mountains, this massive four bedroom house in Shenandoah Shores is exactly what you need. It is a huge property with plenty of room for everyone to spread out, and we are practically right on the water.
What I love about the property I think my absolute favorite part of this house is the sheer amount of space. We have an incredibly large dining room that honestly feels like a small ballroom! It is absolutely perfect for hosting birthday parties, holiday meals, or just gathering all your family and friends in one beautiful space. I also love spending time out on our huge wooden back deck. It looks right out into the trees and gives you a great private view of the woods. Inside, the massive stone fireplace in the open concept living room is perfect for cool evenings. We always leave a starter set of wood, and you can easily grab extra at the general store just ten minutes down the road.
What guests will love about the area People come out to Shenandoah Shores to get away from city noise and they completely fall in love with the outdoors. We are incredibly close to Shenandoah National Park, giving you access to some of the most stunning mountain views and hiking trails in the country. Plus, the Shenandoah River is practically in our backyard. We have boat access right in the neighborhood, making it so easy to spend the afternoon out on the water fishing or kayaking. The night sky is also amazing out here since we do not have bright streetlights blocking the stars.
My favorite thing within walking distance Honestly just walking down to the river itself. It is a very quick stroll right from the front door. We love heading down there as the sun comes up to skip a few rocks and listen to the water. It is so peaceful before everyone else starts their day and is the best spot to clear your head.
What makes this property stand out We wanted this house to be fun and comfortable for big groups, and the amenities really reflect that. A huge bonus for multiple families traveling together is our bedroom layout. We have two primary suites, each with its own attached bathroom. There is another full bathroom up on the second floor for the other bedrooms to share, plus a convenient half bath down on the main level.
The bedrooms are super comfortable, featuring ceiling fans and massive walk in closets so you have plenty of room to unpack. You will also appreciate the beautifully updated bathrooms that feature custom tile showers and double vanities to make getting ready in the morning a breeze for a full house.
For entertainment, you have to check out our massive finished game room. We put in a bright red full size pool table, and it always turns into the main hangout spot at night. If you need to log on for work while you are here, we even set up a dedicated quiet workspace complete with a desk and a proper ergonomic rolling office chair.
Just a quick note since we are right near the river and woods, please keep the exterior doors shut so bugs and woodland animals stay outside. To respect our neighbors, we also observe quiet hours outside between ten at night and eight in the morning.
I am always happy to share my favorite local trails in the national park or the best places to grab a bite to eat. Let me know if you need anything at all!
My Favorite Local Spots and Adventures When you stay here at the river, you are right in the middle of everything I love about the Shenandoah Valley. I spend a lot of time exploring this area, and I am always excited to share the absolute best spots with my guests so you can experience it like a local!
Getting Out on the Water Since we are in Shenandoah Shores, the river is practically your backyard. You can walk right down to our community boat landing to skip rocks or just listen to the water. If you want to make a whole day of it, I always tell my guests to check out Front Royal Canoe Company. They are fantastic local outfitters who will set you up with tubes or kayaks and handle all the transportation so you can just float and relax. If you brought your fishing pole, the smallmouth bass fishing is incredible right off the nearby banks.
Exploring the Mountains We are so lucky to be the northern gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Shenandoah National Park is just a short drive away, and you absolutely have to take a cruise down Skyline Drive while you are here. It has the most incredible pull off overlooks where you can see the entire valley. If you want a great scenic hike without going too far, Shenandoah River State Park has some beautiful shaded trails right along the water.
Caves and Local Quirks If you have kids with you, or if you just love something fun and unique, Dinosaur Land is a total must do. It is a wonderfully quirky roadside park with huge dinosaur statues that families always rave about. For something truly spectacular, you have to go underground! Skyline Caverns is just minutes away in Front Royal and makes for a great family friendly tour, especially on a hot day.
Downtown Front Royal and Local Eats When you are ready for a bite to eat or a cold drink after hiking, head into historic downtown Front Royal. Main Street is full of small town charm. I highly recommend grabbing a pint at the Virginia Beer Museum or checking out the buzzing restaurant district for some fantastic farm to table meals. If you are visiting us in the fall, you have to stop by the local orchards to pick apples and grab some fresh cider.
Also, for anyone visiting Christendom College, we are incredibly close by. It makes this house the perfect home base for alumni weekends, sports tournaments, or family visits.
