The scenic riverside promenade lies in Frankfurt’s city centre, adorned with gothic churches, intriguing museums and the modern financial hub.

With its business and finance skyscrapers, intriguing museums and preserved medieval ramparts, Innenstadt is the eclectic central point of Frankfurt. Here, you’ll find the city’s most international restaurants and bars as well as some of its historic institutions. Visit Innenstadt to find out about life in Frankfurt via a guided tour of this area that decorates the northern side of the Main River.

Among the historical highlights is the Goethe House, which celebrates the life of one of Germany’s most renowned literary figures. Admire the yellow-and-pink façade of the house where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born and grew up. Study the collection of paintings from his era.

Stroll along the tree-lined bank of the Riverfront Promenade and visit the waterside Jewish Museum to learn about Frankfurt’s complex Jewish history. As you walk east, you’ll reach the medieval St. Leonard Church and its adjacent Historical Museum that dates back to the 1800s.

Continue east and head inland for the Frankfurt Dom, the city’s 16th-century cathedral whose tower rises high above the rest of the quarter. Study the intriguing religious relics on display in the Cathedral Museum. It is not far from the Liebfrauenkirche, a gothic structure in which Capuchin monks have lived for centuries.

As a finance hub, the city centre also contains the Stock Exchange and several shopping streets. Browse the shops lining the Zeil street and enter its futuristic-looking shopping mal, MyZeil.

For family activities, bring your little ones to the Zoo Frankfurt or the Tigerpalast Varieté Theatre, which is known for its flamboyant shows and exquisite food.

The Innenstadt neighbourhood encompasses the entire central area of Frankfurt. Travel here by S-Bahn, U-Bahn and tram. Visit the Westend and Ostend wards that sandwich the city’s centre.

Backing onto a charming river promenade lined with historic attractions, Innenstadt is the exciting heart of Frankfurt.
