A very cosy house right in the heart of Fort Augustus. The living room was lovely with the fireplace, though we forgot to ask for more firewood and it got a bit cold at night. It was very peaceful—I think we were the only guests! The room is small if you're travelling with luggage, but very comfortable and warm. The bathroom was perfectly adequate. Breakfast was basic but decent.
Bedroom and bathroom were clean! Beds weee extremely comfortable! Sitting room was an added bonus!
Steve and Diane were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. The eggs Benedict for breakfast was excellent.
Overall, a lovely guest house with a few added, hidden touches to be experienced.
A hidden gem that was a delight to experience.
Fantastic modern, clean accommodation with spacious common lounge area to use. And a bonus excellent continental breakfast we hadn’t expected. Recommended
We had a cosy 1 night stay at The Loch Ness Guest House. Our room was comfortable, it’s close to local restaurants and amenities and a complimentary continental breakfast was provided. Thanks for a lovely stay!
Extremely clean and well organized
We did not receive an email regarding check in procedures, but the phone number provided at the front door connected us to someone who immediately informed us of all the details we needed.
Really liked the self serve continental breakfast but would have appreciated some fresh fruit.
Would definitely stay here again
Pros: sheets and towels were clean. instructions for getting checked in /out were easy to follow, and common area appeared comfortable.
Cons: bathroom sink had toothpaste in the basin, shower floor had hair on it, floors were dirty with debris and corners of floor had lots of dirt and dust gathered there, walls had stains and scuffs in the paint, bed was hard, wobbly, and loud when you sat down. Some of the lamps didn’t work (had to move a different lamp to the bedside table. Walls are paper thin and I could hear the neighbor upstairs snoring all night. Parking was horrible (lot way too small). Breakfast offerings very basic.
Everything about this property was great with 2 exceptions. If you are looking for a comfortable bed after a long day of travel/sightseeing, this would not be the place. I am not a picky person but our bed was hard as a rock and I woke up with an aching shoulder and back. The hotel itself is beautiful and in a great location but this establishment would do well to get some new mattresses if anything, for the comfort of their tired guests.
The second issue was the parking. They have a parking lot, yes but after arriving late one evening, we were forced to park in a handicap spot because there was nothing else available. Shower pressure is fantastic and the backyard view of the mountains is beautiful.
The Lock Ness Guest House check-in was “contact free,” with us given a code to get in the front door, and then once in picking up our key for the room assigned. However we arrived early, and wanted to store our luggage somewhere other than the car, as we were going somewhere else until actual check-in. We then had a very positive interaction with one of the staff, who came out to greet us, and agreed to let us leave our bags there in the common area, inside the locked/coded door. This gave us a sense of security and comfort. While they did not have an accessible room, they did place us on the first floor, and with a room that gave us enough room to move around in, including a comfortably sized bathroom that worked well enough for our needs (some mobility issues, using either a cane or a walker, depending on the circumstances). While the halls going to/from the common area had a couple of tight turns, with doors, they were flat enough, and opened easily enough, to not be an issue. The common room itself, where the guests had breakfast, was generously open and easy to move around in. Our room was solid, basic comfort, which was all we needed. While there was enough parking for all the guests, the designated handicapped parking space was on patch of river rocks, which made actually walking on difficult. While I would NOT recommend the Loch Ness Guest House to any one requiring a wheelchair, it did work well enough for us with a walker/cane.

I had an email the day before with the door code and my room number. I never saw a staff member until breakfast (see below). On the plus side, a spacious, well equipped room with a comfortable bed. However, the old sash windows made it noisy from the traffic in front (request a room at the back). Traffic does disappear at night but starts early in the morning. Lovely thick, lined curtains but they didn't reach across the window. The breakfast was a disaster. A nice enough continental buffet but the staff member was half an hour late; everyone sat around waiting. Then not a word when they arrived, forget "I'm sorry", there wasn't even a good morning. Guests were somehow invisible and breakfast was a process to get through. Some staff training needed I think. I never had any interaction with a staff member my whole stay. Weird.
