• You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of sitting. To lower your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression tights or socks and keep your feet and legs moving.

• Lightweight sneakers are a clever footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when going through security. Hiking boots and other heavy-style shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Pocket knives and other sharp items are prohibited in the cabin. They'll be seized at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.
