Do you have any tips for my flight to None?
- It's simple — first, put in your passport, travel docs, credit cards and vital medications. Next, you'll need some in-flight entertainment to help pass the time. A juicy book and a phone filled with your favourite shows are some wonderful options. If you plan to catch a few z's, a neck pillow and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones will also be useful. Finally, leave space for a toothbrush and some facial wipes so you'll hop off the plane looking and feeling fresh.
- While the list of banned items can differ between air carriers, the general guide to follow is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, blades, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like hockey sticks, and items that could injure passengers, such as firearms and ammunition, are also banned from the cabin.
- The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and pick shoes that are flat, enclosed and easy to take on and off.
- Most travellers have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of sitting. To lower your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and keep your feet and legs moving.
How to get through airport security fast when flying to None?
- Airport security personnel first need to make sure that you have a valid passport and matching travel documents before you're allowed to proceed any further. Have them within easy reach, ready for inspection.
- The X-ray machine is up next. Empty your pockets and remove anything that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes items like earphones or headphones, as well as heavy jackets or coats. They'll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.
- Electronic devices like phones and laptops will also need to go on a tray to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
- Remember to remove gels and liquids from your carry-on luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray scanner separately. Each product should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
- Slip-on shoes are a practical footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Hiking boots and other bulky shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
- Airlines will not allow any pocket knives or other sharp items in your carry-on baggage. If you need to bring these kinds of items, put them in your checked baggage.
