Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you're prepared. We've put together a list of handy tips that will get your Na Khae escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane trip can be a comfortable experience if you've got all the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good novel. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, any daily medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and some money.

• Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of sitting. To reduce your risk on board, stay hydrated, consider wearing compression socks or tights and move your lower limbs often.

• First things first. Your boarding pass and passport will need to be presented to airport security personnel. Have them close by so you don't hold up the line.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your jacket, belt, keys and other small items, like your earphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as your turn draws near.
• All your electronic gadgets, including your laptop and phone, are also required to be separately scanned.
• Remember to remove gels and liquids from your carry-on luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray scanner separately. Each item should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit in a single quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a great footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when going through security. Big boots and other bulky shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them safely away in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed in the cabin.
