• It's simple — first, pack your passport, official ID, cash and medications. Next, you'll want some entertainment to while away the hours. A thrilling novel and a laptop filled with your favourite shows are some great options. If you intend to catch forty winks, a neck pillow and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones will also come in handy. Finally, leave space for a few toiletry items to ensure you touchdown feeling fresh as a daisy.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of banned items differs between airlines, the general guide to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive.
