About this property

Historic Fayetteville Retreat-One of America’s Coolest Small Towns-Near NRG

  • THE HISTORIC HOSPITAL — COME CURE WHAT AILS YOU

Your prescription for rest, adventure, and time together begins here.

Step into a piece of Fayetteville history at The Historic Hospital, a distinctive circa-1930 home just two blocks from downtown. With a past that inspired its name, this welcoming retreat blends vintage charm, playful “doctor’s orders,” and the comforts of home.

Whether you’re gathering with family, reconnecting with friends, celebrating a special occasion, or exploring New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, we invite you to slow down, settle in, and make yourself at home.

    DOCTOR’S ORDERS: GET SOME REST

Four individually decorated bedrooms give everyone a place to unwind. From woodland touches and relaxed boho style to romantic details and bright whimsy, each room has its own personality.

The home welcomes up to eight guests, with two queen beds and two full beds across four bedrooms. A sofa in the large family room offers an additional sleeping option. Linen and cotton bedding add a comfortable finishing touch.

Two bathrooms make getting ready for the day easier. As part of the home’s historic character, bedrooms have hooks and hanging racks rather than traditional closets.

PRESCRIPTION: A HEALTHY DOSE OF TOGETHERNESS

There’s room to gather and room to find a quiet corner. Stretch out in the spacious family room, visit in the formal living room, or pull up a chair around the dining table for a shared meal.

Choose a puzzle, pick up a book, or enjoy an evening without a packed schedule. Sometimes the best part of getting away is having time to do very little.

The well-stocked kitchen makes it easy to prepare breakfast before an adventure or dinner after a full day outdoors. Coffee and tea help you ease into the morning, and guests are welcome to enjoy the pantry provisions provided.

A washer and dryer are available for longer visits and for freshening up after days spent exploring.

PRESCRIPTION: FRESH AIR AND FRONT-PORCH TIME

Begin your morning with coffee on the spacious front porch. Take a seat, enjoy the gardens, and let the day unfold at its own pace.

The side patio and covered back patio offer more places to relax and visit. Enjoy a friendly game of cornhole or washers, then gather around the fire pit as evening settles in. Pull up an Adirondack chair, share a story, and stay awhile.

Recommended dosage: one slow morning, a generous helping of laughter, and an evening under the stars.

    PRESCRIPTION: A LITTLE ADVENTURE

Leave the car behind for a stroll into downtown Fayetteville, where local shops and restaurants are just two blocks away. Walk to favorites such as Pies & Pints or enjoy the convenience of being near The Gaines Estate.

A short drive brings you to the New River Gorge Bridge and opportunities for hiking, scenic drives, rafting, climbing, and exploring. Spend a day discovering trails such as Endless Wall or Long Point, arrange an adventure with a local outfitter, or simply take in the beauty of the gorge.

Back at The Hospital, a comfortable seat and a slower pace will be waiting.

A HOME WITH A STORY AND A WARM WELCOME

The Hospital’s history is part of what makes a stay here special. Look for the framed family history in the family room and the vintage touches throughout the house. Our playful prescriptions are gentle reminders to rest, laugh, explore, and enjoy the people you came with.

This home has been prepared with care, and our guests are prayed for. We hope you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Before your “discharge,” we invite you to leave a note in the guest book—a favorite adventure, a happy memory, or a few words for the next guests.

    A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

This is a two-story historic home with stairs. Parking is available, and guests have access to the home’s welcoming indoor gathering spaces and outdoor seating areas.

Come for the gorge, the small-town charm, or time with the people you love. Leave with memories worth keeping.

The Historic Hospital: just what the doctor ordered.

    Come cure what ails you!
