Completed in 2025, the SaltBrush Casita is an art-filled retreat tucked beneath cliffs less than a half mile from the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Enjoy comfort, breathtaking scenery, and solitude within a five-minute drive to Escalante town.
Completed in 2025 and blending with the native landscape, the Casita is built around a great room with soaring 18-foot ceiling. The plush sofa sleeper and comfortable armchairs are arranged around enormous windows framing the National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain.
The full kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need to prepare meals when not dining out. Enjoy the comfort of home with quartz counters, fridge, dining table, and stainless steel appliances, including a range, microwave, and dishwasher. We also provide a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea kettle and tea, French press, toaster, cutlery, cooking utensils, stainless steel cookware, and barbecue tools. Spices, oils, vinegars, and sugar are in the cupboard. We even provide snacks and cold beverages. Dine on stoneware made by Brett, the owner and the Escalante town potter who has a studio on the property.
A spiral staircase takes you to the open loft overlooking the great room. With a full-height ceiling and its own bank of huge windows, the loft provides panoramic views of the Monument and our famous high-desert landscape. Sleep beneath soft cotton sheets in the comfortable queen bed. There’s also a closet for your clothing and gear.
On the main floor, the bedroom has a cozy queen bed with comfortable cotton bedding, its own heat and air conditioning, and a designer ceiling fan overhead. Wake up to the morning sun climbing the cliffs that rise directly behind the house. There are plenty of hooks to hang your clothes and gear.
The full bathroom is a great place to clean up after a day exploring. The bathroom has a bathtub, shower, Toto bidet, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hair dryer, full-size washer and dryer, and laundry detergent.
In the warmer months, enjoy the private outdoor shower beneath the cliffs. With hot and cold water, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and designer lighting, shower al fresco while enjoying the amazing views of the landscape or nighttime sky.
The shaded patio is nestled next to giant boulders at the base of the cliffs. Relax in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.
The SaltBrush Casita is a 740 square-foot retreat with heat, air conditioning, WIFI, HD smart TV, ceiling fans, key pad for self check-in, and a 240 volt power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle. The queen sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest. Outside the front door there is a Nest doorbell that can record external audio/video and be used to communicate.
Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world. Whether you’re a stargazer or night-sky photographer, SaltBrush Casita is the ideal place to experience the starscape. During the day, explore our eight acres, which include a small slot canyon and an abundance of wild flowers and grasses, Utah Juniper, piñon, and other native flora.
Perfectly situated, the SaltBrush Casita is the ideal base for your adventure. With colors transitioning through yellows, oranges, and reds, the Escalante area has some of the most scenic, unique, and beautiful landscape in the world. Away from the huge crowds, its slot canyons and sandstone cliffs often feel undiscovered.
Hike from the front door or take a short walk to see ancestral puebloan structures. The Grand Staircase-Escalante Visitor Center is less than five miles away, as is the Petrified Forest State Park. We’re also close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. It stretches among Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Escalante, Boulder, Dixie National Forest, and Capitol Reef National Park. If you’re visiting the Magnificent Five, Escalante is a great basecamp. And if you want a change from the sculpted desert landscape, drive or cycle from the Casita to the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forests, cool air, and small lakes where you can birdwatch or fly fish.
While pets aren’t allowed, our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture.
