Saltbush Retreat

Saltbush Retreat

8/10 Good
"Nice property, walking distance from Qantas and Stockman's Hall of Fame. Good size cabin. Pillows not the best and no couch. Great staff. Looks like a pool may be going in."

Longreach Motor Inn

10/10 Excellent
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the kitchen and laundry facilities as well as tea and coffee making, crockery and cutlery in our room. Our room was always cool and quiet with a very comfortable bed. The shower was good with very fluffy towels. The pool and undercover parking were very good too. It was an easy walk to the shops"

Mitchell Grass Retreat

10/10 Excellent
"Great glamping-style accommodation just outisde of Longreach. We stayed for 4 nights in August and had a mix of temperatures to deal with, hot and dusty the fditst day bur then cool and dry for the rest. Very comfortable king bed, great shower and bathroom, and we loved using the barbecue on the deck to cook up some nice steaks while watching the sun set over the plains. The first night was very windy and we wondered if the tent would blow away! But the tent is held with strong metal beams so there was never any chance. Some quite cool nights following that got down to around 8 degrees C meant we had to use the air conditioning to warm things up, but nevertheless was really comfortable overall. The location is very close to town- about 2-3 km- so we spent the days at the Qantas Founders Museum, the Stockman's Hall of Fame, and ate at one of the local pubs in town. As usual for bigger country towns, the local bakery had all the treats you could want, with a good coffee shop next door. So overall it was perfect for us, great location, and very nice place to stay. The only slight inconvenience was the wifi on the property was out due to a Telstra issue. But the Telstra 5G phone signal was strong there so we could still plan our tours, trips, and travel easily using the phone data instead. It was reliable enough to also stream some cable TV shows at night."

"Newly refurbished and looking great. As they only service room on arrival and not during the 3 nights, they need to install towel racks or hooks for towels, hand towels and washer to reissue on a daily basis."

"Excellent place to stay, close pubs and restaurants. Some parts of the bathroom were a little bit dirty and could do with an extra clean but other than that I will be back!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ernestina?
The best area to stay in Ernestina is the Esplanade precinct, particularly around the Marina and the main beach. This area is the heart of Ernestina, offering direct access to the beach, the Ernestina Marina, and a wide array of dining and shopping options. The Esplanade itself is a long, palm-lined promenade great for strolls, with most activities centred between Marina Drive and the iconic Ernestina Jetty. It's very walkable and provides stunning ocean views. For couples looking for a relaxed yet sophisticated getaway, staying near the Marina offers excellent choices. You'll find a selection of boutique hotels and apartments with ocean views, often just steps away from high-quality restaurants and cafes. The Marina is also the departure point for many island excursions, adding convenience to your romantic escape.Families will find the main beach area of the Esplanade particularly well-suited. There are resort-style accommodations with family-friendly facilities, often with direct beach access or close to the Esplanade's playgrounds and picnic areas.
When is the best time to go to Ernestina?
The best time to visit Ernestina is during the dry season, which runs from May to October, as this period offers the most pleasant weather conditions for exploring.During these months, you'll experience lower humidity and consistently sunny days, making it ideal for outdoor activities like reef tours, rainforest excursions, and enjoying the beaches. The ocean temperatures remain warm enough for swimming and snorkelling, typically around 23-26°C. This is also when marine life visibility is at its best for diving and snorkelling. For those planning to visit during the school holidays, particularly in July, it's worth noting that this is a very popular time. While the weather is superb, you should expect larger crowds and higher prices for accommodation and activities. Booking well in advance is highly recommended if you plan to travel during this peak period to ensure you secure your preferred options.Conversely, the wet season, from November to April, brings higher humidity, more rainfall, and the possibility of tropical cyclones. While the rainforest is at its most lush, some outdoor activities might be affected, and there's a higher chance of marine stingers in the ocean, requiring protective swimwear.
