Experience the wide array of family-friendly activities on one of Ocean Expo Park’s best beaches, which has three separate areas and an aquarium to explore.

Emerald Beach is a pretty expanse of white sand fronting the blue-green waters of the Motobu Peninsula. Divided into a Y-shape with special areas dedicated to play, relaxation and wildlife viewing, the beach has plenty of space to enjoy activities amid the gorgeous surroundings. Chill out in the shade or splash in the clear tropical waters. Learn about the local wildlife as you explore the turtle-nesting area or the large foreshore aquarium.

Pick an area to begin your exploration of Emerald Beach. Each section is approximately 490 feet (150 meters) long, making it easy to get away from the crowds or join the beachside fun with the locals. The section of the beach provided for play has easy access to the water, swimming nets and lifeguard patrol. Make the most of this family-friendly play area and splash in the shallows. Rent inflatable toys and explore the gentle waters. Lounges and beach umbrellas are available for rent and pavilions provide free access to shaded areas on the sand.

If you’d prefer to get away from the action, make your way to the section of the beach dedicated to rest and relaxation. Sunbathe on your towel or relax in the shade of a rented beach umbrella. Take in views of the magnificent emerald waters that gave the beach its name.

Stroll to the beach’s wildlife-viewing area to spend some time learning about the local fauna. You might spot turtle nests on the sand, which are protected by nets. Discover more about the Motobu Peninsula’s exciting marine life at the Churaumi Aquarium.

The beach has a kiosk and a snack stand, making it easy to re-energize throughout the day or purchase sunscreen, beach toys and souvenirs.

Emerald Beach is located within the Ocean Expo Park, a drive of 1 hour and 40 minutes from Naha Airport. The beach is open daily for free, but there is a charge for equipment rental and admission to the aquarium. Lifeguards patrol the beach between April and October. There are public restrooms, shower facilities and lockers available at this beach. Free parking is available for Emerald Beach and Churaumi Aquarium visitors.
