Very good place to relax. Thank you. If you have senior citizens( no problem with young people) may be slightly difficult to climb front door stairs due to uneven height of stairs. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay here.

Elgin Wedding Weekend

Caleb’s home was a fantastic place to stay for a family wedding weekend in Elgin. The home was comfortable, clean, convenient to everything that downtown Elgin has to offer and made our time in the area that much more wonderful. We’ll certainly look to stay again the next time there’s a gathering in the area.

Good place for a couple nights

The place was really nice and charming. All of my guests had a good time and everything I needed was there. Some features of the interior could use some general maintenance or replacement (drawers, vents, light switches, etc — small details like that that could eventually inconvenience you in some way), as it was impossible to tell if some things were already like that or if it was us who left it like that. The house has a cool vibe to it, old architecture style, décor, and very cozy. The host has taken great care of providing us with anything we would need - earplugs, sheets, plates, you name it. The neighborhood is a little sketch but everything went well during our stay! Caleb has been a very accommodating host, and even though I have not tried contacting him through his phone, it has been a bit challenging to do so here on Vrbo.

Nice older home, Plenty of space

Nice property, big rooms. As noted in earlier reviews there are some steep steps so if mobility is a problem this might not be for you. 2 block walk from the downtown area where families were biking and playing so neighborhood seemed safe after we were initially unsure. Lots of good restaurants close. The parking spot is tight so if you have a large vehicle you may have to park in the street but there was ample of that. Overall we were very happy with our stay. Host is great and will respond to your questions quickly. There is a train that goes by at night but white noise machines help a lot with that. We will defiantly stay again if in the area.

2nd time staying here!!

Love this place! Our daughter plays basketball at a local college that is close by. We love this house, it’s a perfect set up for the team. The game room in the basement is great for college kids.

Perfect home for our whole family

Was in town for a family event as a family group of 8….it was perfectly spacious for our entire group! Clean and had everything to make you feel right at home, including a great little game room equipped with a pool table, dartboard and other games. Host was very responsive and helpful everytime I reached out. Highly recommend if you need a place to stay, you check out Caleb’s place!

Nice location for Downtown Elgin Access

We choose this location for our friends to gather for our daughter’s wedding. We had about of any issue with plumbing problems, but Caleb help accommodate us the best he could.

Family Getaway

This house was perfect for our little group to all be together as we celebrated a family wedding in Elgin. A nice cozy spot to relax after navigating the recent snowfall in the area! Beautifully decorated, adhering nicely to the historical lines of this home. The only blip (as another reviewer mentioned) was that the front steps were a little challenging at times.

We traveled to Elgin the weekend of July 4th to celebrate my son's wedding, being held at The Highland Loft. This was the PERFECT spot. It was 10 minute walk to the venue, as well as downtown Elgin bars, coffee shops and restaurants. We drove into town, and the property had enough space for 2 cars in the driveway. There was ample street parking around the house, plus a very nice public parking lot about 4 blocks away. We had grocery shopping to do, and there are loads places within close driving distance. The house is gorgeous with so much wood and leaded glass windows -- it felt like stepping back in time, but with all the amenities we've come to expect. It was a very hot weekend, but the air conditioning worked great and the numerous ceiling fans made it very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, as did the 2.5 bathrooms. Caleb was very responsive to our questions, before and during our trip, and we would definitely stay here again if traveling to Elgin.

Great stay!

The property lined up with the listed images and was very clean. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and utensils, there were extra towels and blankets available as well. The home is very spacious with lots of room both on lounge chairs as well as tables for eating. The host was responsive with any messages or questions we had. Highly recommend!

Lovely Modernized Older Home

We were totally enchanted with this older modernized home. The woodwork throughout the home was beautiful. They just don’t build houses like this anymore. Large spacious rooms. Beautiful sun room. Game room in the basement. Nice kitchen. Comfortable beds. Nice outdoor patio. Near the river walk. We enjoyed our visit very much. Thank You!

The house is very spacious; we enjoyed the nice mattresses and linens. TVs and nite lites everywhere, kitchen had what we needed. There is train noise at nite, parking for multiple cars was tricky, and us seniors would have appreciated a railing on the entrance steps - - but we would recommend and would rent again. thx!

Just lovely

We loved everything about this house. There are a lot of stairs, but it is so spacious and so well appointed. The host has thought of everything. Lots of night lights so you're not fumbling around in the dark. We were a group of senior citizens and we were all extremely comfortable. Our host was wonderful to work with. Any questions we had were answered promptly. He also gave us recommendations for restaurants nearby for breakfast. We were visiting family in the area. We would definitely come back and stay in this house again. Plenty of comfortable seating for everyone.

Lovely Home

My wife and I rented the home with my brother, mother, and two of my children. We had plenty of space and the house was very nice. We were there too short a time to use the kitchen or game room, but we really felt the house was great. The only caveat I would give is if you have a family member who is mobility challenged, this house may not be a good fit. My mother broke her hip two months prior to our rental, and the stairs coming up to the entrance and from the basement made for a challenging experience. No fault of the owner, just an observation for those who may be in similar circumstances. Thanks for having us!
