"We liked the proximity to the Royal Mile and Waverly train station, as we were staying here for 20 days. The room and bathroom were very nice. The restaurant was useless to us because of our fish and seafood allergies. We were assured at least 10 times that they would take special care not to have any cross contamination and then went ahead and deep fried our french fries in the same oil as fish. We luckily asked again because my throat felt funny after eating a couple of french fries, asking if they had been cooked in the same oil as fish, to which they responded yes! We immediately had to take a couple of Benadryls and get out our epi pens and decide whether to call the ambulance. We were offered a lousy 25% discount on our meal from the food manager, even though we had barely started eating. We then went to the front desk to report the incident. They were much more caring and the manager said we would not be paying anything for our meals. They also had us sit in the lobby so they could keep an eye on our reactions to the fish exposure. When we finally went to our room, they checked on us until we felt we would be ok. This was greatly appreciated but we couldn't chance eating there again. Very disappointing."

"We had a wonderful stay at Mount Royal Hotel. Waking up to the castle view every morning was truly special, and the staff were consistently warm and welcoming. The room was quite small, with limited storage and no refrigerator. We paid an extra £20 per night for the castle view, and for us, it was worth it. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was the strong musty smell in the shower room, which was unpleasant throughout our stay."
Apex Waterloo Place Hotel

"Stayed for our silver wedding anniversary and glad we chose the Apex Waterloo. Check in was easy and friendly, Room was very nice, clean, spacious and well equipped. Wonderful reception lady came and brought us a bottle of Prosecco on ice with 2 glasses on the house which was a lovely gesture Pool and Spa was lovely and relaxing and for an early Sat evening we had it to ourselves. The lady managing the Spa was wonderfully polite and kind. The bar staff were friendly. Overall a great hotel, yes price was high, but mid July, excellent proximity to city centre, train station etc and special occasion the Apex Waterloo was an excellent choice and would definitely recommend"
