During the months when whales are migrating (May and then September-November) they are often seen having a rest, feeding and playing in Pirates Bay. We live in Port Arthur, a 20 minute drive further south so are always close by and available for any questions.
Eaglehawk Neck is located an approximately 90 minute drive, south east, of Hobart. It is an extremely beautiful part of the world with amazing beaches, scenery and land formations. A quiet suburb which becomes more popular in summer it is a perfect base to stay whilst exploring the Tasman Peninsula. Tessellated Pavement, Devils Kitchen, The Blowhole and Tasman Arch are all located in Eaglehawk Neck. From September- April there is a Fish and Chip Van located in the Blowhole car park. These are the best fish and chips we have ever eaten and they also make their own fruit ice creams and venison and rabbit pies. There are a number of world class bush walks that start and finish at Eaglehawk Neck, some 1 hour return, others are overnight. The World Heritage Port Arthur Historic Site is a 20 minute drive further south on the Peninsula and is open year round. The historic Site is also the start and finishing point of the Three Capes bush walk. There are so many beautiful places to explore in our area and we hope you enjoy your stay.
From our house there are a number of places that are accessible on foot. The beach, tesselated pavement and the historic cottage at the Officers Mess are all a few minutes walk away. The Lufra Hotel, Bar and Restaurant is located below our house and is a 2 minute walk. There is limited public transport on the Peninsula, there being only 1 bus to and from Hobart each day. There is a local taxi driver however the best way to explore the area is by car. Please be courteous to local drivers when on the road and pull over to let them pass if you are taking in the scenery. * Please respect our neighbours by keeping noise to a minimum, particularly during **quiet hours between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am**.
