Good hotel but not really a tourist type location and we were on vacation. Probably very good for a business traveler. Our stay was good and the hotel was cool but parking is very limited and valet is probably what you'd wind up with. It's in the CBD and not close to many of the tourist attractions in Dunedin. It was coo hotel with a retro elevator (closed in the early mornings) and long history.

Sadly most of Dunedin's main toursit attractions are located a way from the city center so can be a challenege finding a suitable hotel! Service was excellent, property very well presented. Chaeck in and check out was slow and seemed like a clunky competer system to book guests in and out. There was quite a line up of guest checking in at 3.30pm. They need two staff on to cope.

Great hotel with super friendly and helpful staff. We had booked a classic room which was small but extremely cozy and luxurious. It was right on the top floor so we had to carry our suitcases up the final flight of stairs which might be a problem for some people. We didn't eat here but did have a really good cocktail in the bar. If we need to stay in Dunedin again then we would definitely return to Fable.

The main problem with the hotel is that the staff are surly when you ask for a service and I have never seen so much condescension from a front desk. When we checked in and asked for the valet parking service, which had been booked by phone a week earlier I was told I would have to park in the street somewhere. the fact that it was pouring down with rain did not help. After parking we were taking our luggage to our rooms and the front desk chases us and gave us our 3 bottles of complimentary wine stating "Oh we forgot to give you these", what's wrong with leaving them in our three rooms as good hotels do? As I have previously stated this hotel and its staff are all pose and no service and I could not recommend this hotel to anyone

Thankfully we are able to get you a space the very next day.As for the wine, I'm sorry it wasn't given to you right away. The reason it's not kept in the room, it too avoid confusion with other minibar items, as only Expedia guests receive wine and we like to pass it to our guests at the desk to add a personal touch to the gift. Excellent stay overall with great location for relative easy walking to CBD, nearby attractions, and a few restaurants. Room was small but still great for a short stay. Hotel is well maintained and clean throughout. Staff were most courteous and professional throughout at reception, housekeeping, and restaurant. Would stay again.

Pillows were a little firm, would have been nice to have one soft and one firm pillow (options). Otherwise good stay - restaurant has good quality food.

Property seems nice in terms of finishes but trying to be a 5 star with 3 facilities and staff. Nice enough but missed all the small details from linen/towels that feels as rough as sandpaper to staff slouching on phones and minimal eye contact. The hotel is a short walk to centre of Dunedin. Food at the hotel is very average and well overpriced for what it is. If they concentrated on the small details it’ll be value for money but reality is it’s a 3 star and not a patch on other fables around NZ/AU

Absolutely shocked with such an incredible customer service from Romano and Lachlan. As a gold member from hotel.com I had my free wine and free upgrade. The sea view 17sqm is a very small room and I don’t recommend it if you like a bit more space. But the upgrade I had was fantastic. The chef was also very kind accepting make a special weird breakfast for me (eggs and fruits) I didn’t have time to explore the hotel but overall it was a nice and comfortable stay.

Lucky we arrived at the hotel was on public holiday so the street parking is free, otherwise it is a pain to find the parking spot plus parking time max is 4 hours. The staffs are so friendly and helpful. Only one thing is not convenient that we have to carry the luggage either walking up or down after getting out the lift to go to our room. Other then that everything is great 👍

It was NYE, and the hotel was fully booked. Our 'suite' was so small we had difficulty opening our luggage - and the view of the building next door - from the bedroom was less awful. Was hoping for larger bedroom space.

Gorgeous and cozy hotel. Especially, breakfast menus are amazing. I chose this hotel for my family and all members were satisfied with the high quality service. However, parking is not convenient but it’s easy to reach out local amenities near hotel by walking. Strongly recommend staying this hotel.

Windows felt drafty. Had to put pillows for insulation. On the plus side, they had pillows of 3 different firmness to chose from. That's rare even in the best of hotels. Makes for a much better sleep when get the right pillow.

A well-kept property let down by many flaws. The Fable is a very well kept hotel in a heritage building. The rooms are well appointed, albeit small. The big letdowns were the very slow breakfast where we waited over 30 minutes for oatmeal and a coffee. Disappointingly the hotel has no gym and din’t offer the Expedia rewards that were printed on the booking. We did get a later checkout but staff forgot to extend the key. The upkeep of the hotel is great but its much let down by inattentiveness of staff. I’ll go elsewhere next time.

The hotel was a total let down. The staff was rude and very condescending. One thing told to us, then heard the opposite told to others. Hotel “ran out” of parking and told us to just park in a metered spot and get up and feed the meter. Lovely. But the concierge told the couple after us he’d get their car parked. Thought there wasn’t any parking left? At 8:30am when we are getting up to feed the meter, housekeeping is out in the hallway knocking on doors. 8:30am - really? People are still sleeping. In the room multiple areas that clearly are not vacuumed well. Should be pristine if housekeeping starts at 8:30. Two elevators but apparently you can only put your luggage on one of them? Never heard of this. Concierge thought it was important to be condescending when telling my partner that. Not necessary. It’s an elevator why can’t it have luggage? Overall a very unenjoyable stay. Did not enjoy this hotel.

Dear Hannah, I am very sorry to read that you were so upset by your stay at our hotel. Regarding the car parking - we do suggest guests who book with us reserve car parking before arrival to avoid disappointment - that is likely what the other guests have done hence why we were able to park their car for them. Housekeeping do start at 830 am, and will knock on vacant rooms doors before cleaning this is standard procedure as we would never want to walk in on guests. We do have two lifts at the hotel, one at the back that is a modern lift and an older lift at the front of the property. We usually request you use the lift at the back when checking in for two reasons, - we close the older lift at night time to prevent guest disturbance and the older lift is smaller in size so it is for your comfort we suggest to either bring the luggage up to the room for you or use the lift at the back of the property. I understand that you have not enjoyed your stay, but I do hope you now understand that the team were not trying to be condescending, they were being helpful and our housekeeping team were in no way knocking on doors to annoy any guests.

Beautiful hotel, was an amazing room. Staff were amazing and great location. Only things, if had to pick something, is due to the age of building, elevator meant it couldn't stop on every floor and a flight of steps was required to access room. Also not able to see out the windows in room (not opaque due to orientation of room).
