Despite the rainy weather, we enjoyed a long weekend at this great property. The heated kitchen floor was a bonus! It was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked. Great location. We visited 8 of the 11 Finger Lakes! We would definitely come back.
We stayed in early November and had a wonderful experience at the cottage. The beds were sooo comfortable. Enjoyed coffee down by the lake and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere throughout the day. The home was immaculate and offered every amenity we needed. Highly recommend this rental!
We had a great time at Duckingham Cottage! The area was so nice and it was nice to be on a smaller lake. The house was clean and updated and fit our needs perfectly! We had an issue where we had to call maintenance since we got locked out but they came within 20 minutes and got it fixed! Great communication and very helpful throughout the trip. Hope to stay here again in the future!
Our stay in mid-June was relaxing. We especially enjoyed the view of a pastoral hillside across the lake.
The cottage itself is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is compact, well stocked and efficient. The owners say in their description that they enjoy entertaining - the cottage seems well suited to that purpose, especially the stocked bar. We don't drink and were shocked to find free liquor there. All of the dining room chairs are so high that your feet don't touch the ground. We didn't find them comfortable for sitting or computer use. Same for the chairs around the table on the deck. The lighting is not very good for reading, but the couch and recliner are quite comfortable.
Sleeping was good. Very quiet. A firm mattress, but sheets were too small. Quiet air conditioning. Good temperature, once we learned how to adjust the thermostats.
Little boat traffic, as school was still in session. Fishing was not good even though June 15 was the opening day for bass. On one day, I kayaked for over an hour and only saw one other boat.
There is good shade for lounging by the lake in the morning, but little in the afternoon when it is hot. The patio chairs and ottomans are very comfortable but not the chairs by the lake. The geese like the shore, so goose poop was an issue. The dock is excellent and there were several kiddie kayaks and paddle boards. There was a canoe, but no canoe paddles.
In summary, a tidy, relaxing cottage despite minor inconveniences.
My family and I had a great time here! The property and location were perfect! My husband and children spent lots of time fishing and I loved relaxing by the fire pit next to the lake. On rainy days, the house was fully stocked with plenty of board games for all ages. Overall, this was a fantastic trip and I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway to the Finger Lakes
We loved Duckingham Cottage - the game room, the view, the kitchen had everything we needed, the canoe, the location, etc. The only complaint (which is kind of a big one) is that the bed was very hard and uncomfortable.
Our family enjoyed your home on the lake. Some of went to wineries, others over to Watkins Glen race course to catch the vintage races and others just relaxed in the backyard and used your paddleboards and kayaks in the lake.
I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a long weekend in the Fingerlakes area. The home is very clean, comfortable and has a great deck/patio area overlooking the lake.
Everything was exactly as advertised. Freshness and cleanliness with beautiful views of the lake. My friends and I spent 12+ hours fishing on the lake. Coming back to a clean and updated cottage to grill & enjoy company sealed our love for this place. Property manager kept up consistent communication in case we needed anything but everything was already provided.
As my 9-year-old said, this lake house is bigger on the inside. There are two distinct living areas. This was great for us because we could play games loudly in one area while other people watched TV in the other room without bothering each other. The property is scrupulously clean and well-maintained. The outdoor spaces are nice including a big fire ring near the shore. The house is conveniently located for the amazing gorge at Watkins Glen State Park. We also enjoyed a trail ride at a nearby horse farm. The west-facing deck delivers pleasant sunsets. The only negative is that this is not a very good location for swimming. The lakefront is quite shallow with a lot of lakeweed. While we were there, the algae was bad but I assume that varies throughout the year. We took the kayaks and canoe out once but it was kind of gross getting out of the algae bloom into the open water. The lake is very quiet with just a few jet skis and power boats throughout the day.
The cottage was everything and more than we expected. Beautiful location on the lake with several options of outdoor seating to enjoy the lake front. Thankfully the A/C kept us comfortable while indoors. I have to admit there were a couple "downsides": 1) Geese & ducks tended to really like the two neighboring properties along with Duckingham Cottage, possibly the reason for the cottage name. Anyways, watch for poops by the water and on the dock. 2) Since the stay was so enjoyable, leaving was very melancholy. I can imagine this would be a great rental at any time of year. Would love a return visit in the future.
Great vacation spot espec for those with young children/grandchildren or several adults
Clean cottage with nice updates. Adequate kitchen well stocked. Really appreciated use of kayak, canoe, and young grandchildren ages 4 and 15 mos loved paddle boat with their parents. 4 yr old sang the Disney Moana songs as she held her ‘oar ‘in the water while in the canoe 😊Lake calm with occas gusty spells nothing dramatic. Didnt swim here but went to small ‘beach’ area Hammondport- about 10-15 min drive-stone bottom but grandChildren loved it - just need water shoes.Fishing off the dock and spots around the lake. Made fire in the firepit- seating for 10 down by the firepit! New deck table /chairs and new seating area furniture on patio. Plenty of linens provided which was appreciated. Additional party space was great- lots of games for all ages. Lawn for girls to run on. Easy access to wineries, craft breweries and restaurants. New restaurant /bar/music 5 min walk. Multple birds singing all the time-lovely-also saw Heron, Osprey, ducks, geese and even turtles sunning in channel connecting Waneta with Lamoka lakes.
Joleen was really easy to work with, very responsive- answered all of our questions. We had a great week. Thank you to Joleen and her crew!
We really enjoyed our stay here! The cottage looks small from the outside but is quite roomy and comfortable. Everything was very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. The bar room is great. There’s lots of games to play. We loved using the watercraft. We’d definitely stay here again. Thank you!
We stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday. House was clean and comfortable. It was cold and a bit snowy, but we started a fire in the wood stove, and the house was very cozy. the kitchen had everything we needed to make a full thanksgiving dinner. The bar area was great. There were a lot of games, and we enjoyed them almost every night. We enjoy the outdoors, and there were several hiking locations we visited on our trip. There are also a number of wineries to visit very close to the house. A very relaxing Holiday weekend, thank you for sharing it with us.
The cottage was clean and well equipped. The decor was very cute and not overdone. The weather was too cold during our stay to use all the water toys, but they looked like they were well maintained. The location is perfectly situated between Wakins Glen and Hammondsport. Our only complaint would be the bed and bedding on the master bed. Too hard for our taste, however, other people might find the hardness nice. The bedding was clean but needs to be updated. The sheets were too short on the sides and the comforter was too thin and too short on the sides. Also, a padded mattress cover would be a nice addition. Other than that small issue, we really enjoyed our stay at the cottage.
My friends and I stayed here for a long weekend and loved the close location to wineries and Watkins Glen. The house was perfect! We loved everything about it and are hoping to make it an annual event!
This cottage is so wonderfully decorated. It had tons of fun stuff for our 3 kids to do. It was fun trying out some new family games in the evening when the weather was cool. I was worried that the kitchen looked small, but that too worked out wonderfully. They have EVERYTHING you would need!
