Its current markings of black with two yellow bands have been in place since 1954. The color of the light was changed from white to red on 1st July 1860. The tower was originally only 14m tall. It was extended to its current dizzying height of 40m in the 1880's and is now the tallest onshore lighthouse on the Irish coast. The lighthouse was automated in 1981. The perfect spot!

A lovely cottage in the perfect location, just a 5 minute walk to beautiful Tyrella Beach. The cottage was cosy, clean and had everything we needed. The ideal spot for exploring the area, we would love to go back soon.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. We enjoyed walking down to the beach and exploring the local towns. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a quiet getaway.
