• "This was the perfect spot for a Michigan getaway! The house was in the perfect spot in Douglas, right next to a coffee shop and the root beer barrel, close to a small beach access, and within minutes drive from downtown Saugatuck. We enjoyed the fire pit outside and the hosts recommendations. Super clean and helpful guide for everything we may have needed. Would highly recommend!" - Mollie (MO)

We had an excellent stay! The property was the best house we have stayed in, in our over 20 years of visiting Douglas for one week every Fall. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable and the layout was perfect. We enjoyed eating out on the back deck even when it rained. The Upscale/Home Base folks have an excellent product and we look forward to future trips at there other properties.
A magnificent weekend to celebrate my 90th birthday with my daughters. A truly tranquil, peaceful, lovely area and beautiful home. Douglas is a charming town to explore with many interesting shops and excellent restaurants.
We stayed for a second time and loved it as much as our first. Perfect place for a family stay or a friend’s get together. Great location, everything one needs, and professional, clear and quick communication.
We cannot recommend this property more highly!
We had a great time celebrating our mom's birthday and checking out the tulips and beaches. The location was perfect and the house had all of the amenities we needed. We did need to make contact with the owner and she responded promptly and helped us right away. We would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone!
I am expecting our second child. This was a last minute weekend getaway as a family of 3 and I’m so thankful we came. Our 3 year old had so much fun riding his bike on the road by the driveways which was very safe/no cars. The coffee shop was great. Overall the location was perfect- less than 10 minutes to Oval Beach and Saugatuck. We had a wonderful getaway
A truly wonderful house for a trip to this area. Located close to several beaches, trails, shops and restaurants in Douglas and Saugatuk. And only about 15 minutes from Holland. This house was perfect for my family of four and my in-laws. It is a very well stocked house. We had plenty of towels, toilet paper, hand soap and cookware items. There is even shampoo, conditioner and body soap in each shower. Plenty of places to enjoy the outdoors in nice weather- a big deck, porch, and side yard with a firepit. A great choice for a quick trip or extended stay. We will definitely be back.
We went for a short girls trip and we were thouroughly impressed with EVERYTHING!!! Location, Accommodations, provided Amenities - just everything! We really couldn't have been happier. We had zip-lock bags; S&P + spices like at home; coffee; filters; wood for firepit. Neighborhood was perfect - accessible to everything you would want: Beach, Downtown restaurants, roads to take you directly to shopping. I can't say enough. This will be a definite do-over for all of our future trips to Saugatuck/Douglas/Holland
The Duneside Retreat is truly gem. It was a girl’s long weekend getaway and we had every amenity at our fingertips. The beds were so comfortable, the kitchen truly amazing (even left us a bag of local coffee) it was so fun to sit in the front porch or back deck And by the fire pit. The location is spectacular. We walked everywhere or took the Urban Transportation Please add a barn door to the master bath bathroom. There’s no door so please remedy for guests for needed privacy when in clear glass shower. But still 100% happy with our stay.

How a 5-Star Property Receives a One-Star Rating
PROS
1. Very nice home with an open floor plan concept including a large kitchen and living room.
2. Three bedrooms & two bathrooms, two-car garage, and a Washer & Dryer.
3. Close proximity to the beach/lake, downtown Saugatuck & Douglas (e.g. restaurants, wine bars, etc.).
CONS
1. The house was very expensive for the six days (approximately $3,000), we had very high expectations for the vacation rental home.
2. An exterior motion sensor light on neighbor's house, in extremely close proximity to the rental home, directly illuminated two of the three bedrooms continuously throughout the night. At times, the motion sensor was illuminating the two bedrooms every other minute, at other times in the night, it would illuminate the two bedrooms every 15 minutes.
3. Customer service (Natalie) was contacted the morning of Thursday, 9/30, after 3 nights of this intrusive light.
4. Customer service (Natalie) informed us that there was nothing that they could do and then encouraged us to purchase "sleep masks".
5. Customer service (Natalie), about 30 minutes after the above response, followed-up and indicated that they would reach-out to neighboring property.
6. Customer service, that for the remaining three days, did not contact us with an update about their efforts.
7. NOTE: No mention made of the motion sensor light on the neighboring home prior to our booking or arrival.
8. Poor Customer service!
9. Five of six adults slept very poorly due to motion sensor light throughout!
We loved everything about this home. The inside is immaculate with lots of natural light streaming in through the windows. The kitchen is well equipped; coffee and tea are provided. We spent lots of time outdoors on the back deck which was shaded. We'd highly recommend the coffee shop, located just two doors down on W Center St, which also sells art and apparel by founder and owner, Rae Lang. Also, don't miss stopping by Root Beer Barrel! You've never had a better hotdog and the root beer floats are not to be missed. If we ever revisit the area, we'll definitely check to see if this house if available.
The place was great and in a great location. We took a girls trip for Tulip time festival. Beautiful home located close to everything. Definitely check out the Root Beer Barrel on the corner.

Can’t wait to come back
This house was wonderful. Great location. Walking distance to Douglas. House was clean and comfortable. Great kitchen to cook in!! Would highly recommend.
This home was so beautiful! The house itself was meticulously clean and beautifully decorated. It was located on a quiet street, just outside downtown Douglas, with a coffee shop and a rootbeer/hot dog outdoor restaurant right on the corner. We had a great time!
The house has much to offer. The size was perfect for our group. We enjoyed the fireplace and fire pit. The location also is great. Would suggest light blocking curtains in the bedrooms.
