"We walked in an apartment with dust and dirt on the floor, mould behind toilet door, mould on kitchen glass tray. They said this apartment was closed for some time. Housekeeping staff should be trained to check on details. Would not recommend for families who are particular about cleanliness. "This hotel is chef's kiss. The pool and poolside are brilliantly thought out and massive so you can have a peaceful dip even if it's busy (I went out of season). My riverside room was the perfect way to start every day and the food, even the Western food, is really good. The service is unrivalled, it surpassed my expectations. I would say the hotel's greatest asset is its location in between the river and the sea, where you also you get lots of wildlife. And a 7 minute walk (plus couple of minutes shuttle boat to the town side) to Aluthgama train station. The minute you're out of the town side entrance, you're in the thick of town life but you wouldn't know it from the island oasis the hotel is on. It's walking distance to the Secret Island temple and Bentota Bridge, which are the only things Bentota offers other than beach. I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to everyone who comes to Sri Lanka for a relaxed, luxurious beach holiday. Special shout out to Thilak the boatman and Masheshani on reception, who were both stars. Auic and all who work at Ceylon Club and the pool men."

"We fell in love with La maison de Colombo! It’s a haven of peace in a sometimes hectic city. The space is spectacular, the furniture, the pool, the rooms, the bedding - everything was done to high level of sophistication and comfort. And the French touch was beyond charming! The French posters mixing effortlessly with the Sri Lankan design was just perfect. The food was also incredible - do not miss the breakfast! - and the dinner felt like it was cooked by a French chef with excellent coq au vin and beef bourguignon. They have a really stylish wine bar as well with great champagne available. It’s the perfect retreat for travelers at the beginning or the end of a trip to Sri Lanka whether you want to ease your way into Sri Lankan lifestyle or transition back from the jungle and have some well earned comforts after travelling around this beautiful island. Christophe and Beatrice made us feel right at home and were very friendly with great stories to tell. We absolutely loved it and as a French national myself it felt like a home away from home. "
