"I had camped at the Desert Horse Inn campground on a visit to Namibia in 2005. It was an enjoyable experience. Passing through again in 2024, I was curious to see what the villas were like. "Great location obviously sitting right on the rim. Good food and wide selection of drinks. Good service. Strange you don’t get a Wi-Fi voucher for each night stay as we ran out on final night of our 2 nights. Appreciate you can buy more access but really for a hotel of this standard you should get one voucher per night. "The scale system used by hotels.com doesnt do Alte Kalfoken lodge justice. It's a beautiful property, surrounded by nothing but the beautiful nature and wildlife of Namibia (Sure, theres a train track beside the property, but there aren't any trains running through. The staff are lovely, the scenery is picturesque and the food is amazing. If you're even considering staying in the Keetmanshoop area, skip it and drive a bit further to Alte Kalfoken. You will not regret it."

"The room was large and clean, with uninspired decor containing furniture that could have come from Ikea. Plenty of parking and secure premises inside a compound. The restaurant was perfectly fine and breakfast & dinner good. We were there on a Friday night and there was some disturbance in the small hours from drinkers at the club in the main building leaving. Annoying, but it didn't last long. If you have a reason to stay in Keetmanshoop, this is probably a good, though unremarkable, option"

"The hotel is in a private concession (owned by the local tribes) within the Kgalagadi national park. A truly beautiful place, though hard to get to. The location is incredibly peaceful and picturesque, and I am very happy we got to see it. The hotel is also owned by the community, though managed by a professional manager. "Hotel room was new and modern. Checkin staff were very efficient. Wifi worked well. Restaurant seemed underprepared for everything, however. I got dinner after a long wait but the restaurant had run out of gas for other patrons. At an early breakfast, they were already out of eggs and coffee and I waited again.
