The Barn House Lodge
A unique lodging experience. A barn turned home. The barn was built in the year 1900. We are located in downtown Spillville, IA. A unique Czechoslovakian town. This barn is part of once was a working farm before the town of Spillville was incorporated in 1920. This barn was once a home to cows, horses and I am sure some chickens. We have the resident "barn cat" Stormy patrolling the property. The living room and master bedroom is in what was once the hay loft. The kitchen is where they parked the tractor at night. The large private back yard was once a corn field. The Turkey River is just a short distance from the private back patio. Bring your kayaks or canoe and drop in right here. You may see deer helping themselves to the neighbors apple trees.
Spillville is a village founded by a German. This town grew into a refuge for Czechs. This small Czech village became a retreat for composer Antonin Dvorak.
Today Spillville is a small town in the northeast corner of Iowa nestled among the soft rolling hills of the Turkey River Valley. A dedicated community of families strive to preserve the rich history, heritage and Czech culture.

The property was clean and comfortable! The back porch was a great place to hang out in the morning with our coffee and sit in the evening after our day of exploring in Decorah! We will most likely choose to stay here again as Decorah is a midpoint for the four of us. Thanks for a great stay!
This was a cute, spacious property in a lovely setting. The host was very friendly and offered suggestions for actvities in the area
The kitchen was well stocked with cooking and eating utensils
The property was well maintained and comfortable. The grounds were spacious and provided a peaceful setting. We were there for graduation at Luther College and the trip into Decorah was less than 15 minutes. The chickens on the property were a bonus for the kids and Christine was very hospitable and easily available. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
This is a unique, historical property with a great vibe. Clean and comfortable, with many little extras provided, the hosts go out of their way to make sure you’re taken care of. The farm fresh eggs were a wonderful surprise! Excellent communication with owners and an overall great stay. Would definitely stay again when in the area.
Incredibly charming! The hosts have done such a cute job decorating in a way that highlights this old barn. The back yard is stunning with a peaceful flowing river at the back. There was plenty of room for throwing around a football and playing cornhole. We were able to chat with both Kevin and Christine and found them each to be delightful. The farm fresh eggs in the fridge was a lovely surprise and oh so yummy. The location was perfect as it was just a hop, skip, and jump away from Luther College. We will definitely stay again.
This property is a gem. The location was perfect for our trip, as it's only 10 minutes to the campus and about 13 minutes into Decorah. The backyard is amazing - we watched as a bald eagle perched next to the stream. The interior is so unique and comfortable. Although we have NO reason to come back to this part of Iowa, we just might make another trip to stay in this barn home again.
This place was very unique! Great stay! Friendly hosts!! Cleaned our car off and shoveled the snow to the front stoop so it was cleaned when left! Also gave fresh eggs for breakfast!!!!!
