This is a third rate dive mixing noisy residents and visitors. Avoid it if you want to sleep. A car stolen from inside the property didn't improve its image.
Quite literally the worst place I’ve ever started at and I’ve stayed in backpackers around the world.
Dirty rooms. Dirty sheets. Dirty bathrooms. Outside yard was a mess.
Reception is hardly open and closed early.
Disgusting is the word that comes to mind.
Worst hostel I ever had, there's no ladder to get on the top bed, there's no laundry (10 min walk for the closest one), the kitchen is closed between 2:30pm and 5pm (what ? You're hungry? Well, too bad for you...). Everything is dirty : the rooms, the toilets (bring your own toilet paper...), the shower (there's a used bandage in one of a shower for a week now), the pool,... Oh and bring a weapon, because there's always people fighting at night or strangers coming inside the hostel to steal from your room. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Ps: don't trust the description, there's no free breakfast and the pictures make you think it's clean and friendly but it's not.
The place was dirty and hygenic. I was given a room and there wasn't any bed available. All of the beds had clothes, blankets, pillows etc... on them. So basically they did not actually have room for me.
I couldn't even get into the room as there were suitcases stacked up behind the door. I checked in and checked out twenty minutes later.
The young women serving me was friendly enough but she did not really speak enough English to understand what I was saying.
Dirty + rude service, didnt get the bed I paid for
The hostel was absolutely disgusting in terms of service and cleanliness. My partner and I paid for two beds in a shared dorm but when we arrived there were no lockers available (even though we were supposed to have one each) and all surfaces and the floor were covered in rubbish, so we had to put our bags on one bed and share the other. However when we returned to the hostel after dinner our second bed had been taken so we had no where to sleep! The reception was closed so we had no staff members to talk to so we had to last minute find somewhere else to stay. When we came back in the morning to check out the staff refused to refund us for the three other nights we were supposed to stay but didn't because of the terrible service we'd recieved and not getting the bed we paid for. The staff said we should have asked everyone in the room if they were supposed to be there or not, NOT the job of the guest! This backpackers is the worst accommodation I have ever had the displeasure of visiting and I urge people to not waste their money on this dump.
Liked it was opposite a park
Did not like that I was unable to check in until 5pm, place not cleaned properly, other guests being allowed to stay up drinking with loud music until late, broken power sockets not disconnected, no comfortable seats to relax in, fridges hadnt been cleaned out since mid May, no cutlery, bowls, plates, cups etc available in the kichen - had to buy my own, slat missing in bottom of the bed frame I slept in, other guests being able to set up a TV to watch soccer on the verandah outside my room at 1am, place in poor condition.
Was a last minute booking and we thought it couldn’t be that bad.. it was! The place just felt dirty, the mattress was as hard as a rock and we left after 10 hours, didn’t even want to shower there. The only upside was the check on process was easy and the workers were nice
Very nice hostel, great location, cool backyard and supernice staff!

One of your staff was very rude and nasty when talking asking her a simple question she would be off topic and rude. Didn't end up coming to the property requested for my money back and nothing happened up to now.
Booked two dorm beds for my girlfriend and myself and when we got there we were upgraded for free to our own double room with private bathroom.
WiFi basically does not work.

Older hostel close to town
The hollow frog... Is an old property with friendly staff. Not the flashiest option but clean and free breakfast was good. Plenty of wifi and a great pool. Relaxed crowd and quiet at night.
The only good thing I can say about this hostel is that they have lockable cupboards in the rooms and the aircon works, if you want a place for a night or two it's ok
this place absolutely stinks. its so nasty. not the type of smell you can ignore inside of the dorm room!!! and outside it smells like rotting flesh. odd atmosphere with people hanging around drinking from 9am until... well the next morning. only positive is the night staff are lovely. you couldn't pay me to stay here again

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Loving the dry season; brief showers - free lagoon
Love the wooden slated bunks, who cares about the mattress? Plenty of free things to do in Darwin; beautiful weather. Pretty central; quiet pool side. Plenty of staff to keep the place clean.
It was terrible. Reception was closed at strange hours, so had to wait in the swimming area with all the bags. Then they insisted I hadn't paid when I had, and charged. Got the money back the next day, because apparently the person who recorded the payment didn't record it properly. Also very dirty. Went to a different backpacker (YHA) the moment the 3 day booking was finished here.

Budget hostel
Showers are dirty. I pulled a big hairball out of the drain on day 1 and on day 4 it was still in the corner of the shower. Mattresses are sitting outside on the sidewalk. My food went missing from the fridge. 2 "hot tubs" are not heated. Kitchen is closed at 9pm. Staff is very nice.
Two negatives; their free wi-fi was very on/off (only worked part of the time), and you had to buy your own plate/cup/silverware; nothing provided in the kitchen (thus, eating the free breakfast was tricky without making the purchase).
Apart from this, everything else was good; location, cleanliness, the pool, plenty of space in the rooms, nice common areas.
Many longterm inhabitants. The staff was very nice, even allowing native people to stay. Sometimes very noisy with doors banging and loud shouting.
The swimmingpool was the only positive thing. Cannot recommend to international guests.
