At The Edge Of Solitude Where Stars Are Bright And The Air Is Fresh

Fortunately, some of the most beautiful places on earth can be experienced without the cost and responsibility of actually owning them. Red Canyon Ranch in the Black Hills is no exception. Situated high atop the Black Hills historic red-limestone and sandstone canyon, the location of the original route into the Hills for both Native Americans and the white settlers that followed, Red Canyon Ranch is a monument to the cowboy lifestyle, with elements of luxury and style that most cowboys have probably never seen. The cabin is a lodge-pole pine dwelling, in the tradition of an aged lodge. The cabin sits on 110 private acres and offers full views of Red Canyon from three sides, rustic floors and cabinetry with natural dry-stack, slate fireplace in the living room, and master bedroom, and sleeping accommodations for 6 people. An outdoor hot tub that nearly floats above the canyon’s edge makes soaking under the stars a life time memory.

On a clear day, Red Canyon offers extraordinary views to its east, where sheer red walls accentuate the awesome powers that went into its creation, as well as the intricacies of its meandering path. To the south, across the canyon, the dense clustering of centuries-old Ponderosa pine easily explains how the area came to be known as the “Black” Hills . To the west, the canyon continues with steep rock walls, dramatic outcroppings and a long distance view to Wyoming.

You'll Love Our Neighbors: Red Canyon is home to one of the most diverse wildlife populations in the Black Hills. Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Eagles, Mountain Lions, Bobcats and Turkeys.

Explore The Best Part Of The Black Hills: The southern Black Hills holds something for everyone and every taste. Nestled among the rolling hills are quaint towns offering shopping, dining, and tourist attractions that could easily fill your day with smiles. The area also hosts some of the country’s most beautiful parks and well-known monuments, all within a short and scenic drive from each other.

At the Founder's Cabin, you'll have thousands of acres to explore whether hiking or horseback riding across this historic property.

Cabin in the pine trees
We stayed at the cabin and listened to the wind in the pine trees over looking the canyon. We saw turkey, and other birds, the cabin is well equipped to just stay there and enjoy, and the views are amazing. Shout out to Nina, the Thai food is the best. Highly recommend this cabin and already thinking how nice it would be in the winter.

The Red Canyon Cabin Oasis is Spectacular
We had a wonderful visit. The cabin is well appointed with everything needed for preparing meals. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of condiments and spices that were available for our use. The cabin is well maintained and very clean, with signs of a host that takes care to provide personal touches throughout. You can tell Lori takes pride in being a good host with a lot of attention to detail. The hot tub is clean and well maintained, as well as the outdoor grill. In the week we were here, we were able to see Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, Needles Highway, Crazy Horse and the Mineral Springs, for a good soak! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. John and Susan - Weeki Wachee, Florida

Truly beautiful
The cabin is gorgeous, and the view spectacular. I was surprised how much we enjoyed the hot tub. It's not something I usually look for, but relaxing after a long day of hiking while watching the stars and listening to the owls hooting turned out to be just the thing.

Truly amazing
This cabin is beyond beautiful. They have thought of everything so just bring food, very well appointed! So secluded and the views are unbelievable. The thing you need to know is it is a 20-30 minute un-paved drive once you turn on the road to the cabin. But the drive is very pretty and you will see mule deer so...there is that! Overall one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed!!!

Complete solitude
My husband and I just stayed at Red Canyon Cabin for the second time and will definitely be back for a third and more! We love the peaceful environment, comfort of the cabin, great hiking, hot tub and fires in the fireplace. The home has everything you need. Bring enough food, etc. and plan to park and never leave! Lori and John are very attentive if you have any questions. Perfect for a romantic getaway!

PERFECT
We could literally make this review as long as a novel, however, we wont. Let us just say everything was beyond wonderful, from the booking, the directions and drive to the location, the cabin and all things in and around it, the views, local day trips, Nina's food, and the checkout! If you would like an amazingly, fantastic and tranquil weekend or longer, do not hesitate to book!!

Another fantastic stay at this property!
I think this visit was our 4th stay at this property, and we love every minute that we spend at Lori’s place! The cabin interior is meticulously clean and well maintained, with comfortable beds, quality bedding, and thoughtful touches that make you feel like you didn’t book a long enough stay. And then there’s the exterior, and I don’t see how anyone could get tired of the fabulous views from every window (including the shower), two decks, the hot tub and grill area. This is a place where my family can completely exhale…and enjoy talking to one another again by the fire or around the table. I leave this review risking an even busier schedule at the cabin, which can be difficult to find openings for, but is well worth the scheduling effort! Lori, thanks for another amazing retreat!
