We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cabin 5 at Ponderosa Place. It’s conveniently located near Black Hills landmarks with access to local dining. Appreciated MeTV, WiFi and a fully supplied kitchen.
This is a great property to stay in to be in close proximity to all the wonders around Custer. Check in and check out were super easy. The unit had everything we needed fornour stay.
The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. Towels and bedding were freshly laundered and smelled so good. Close to trails and shopping as well.
Definitely recommend this to everyone.
This is the place to stay in Custer! The canine was adorable and had everything and more we needed. Loved how close to downtown and amenities it was. It was very clean and well taken care of. Would 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a nice place to stay in the heart of Custer!
We used Custer as our "hub" for traveling South Dakota sights. This stay was perfect! We had plenty of room for two parents and two kids. (Kids were happy not to share a bed--one took the futon, one took the pullout couch). They loved having the yard out from to swing and play tetherball. Crystal was super responsive and helpful with anything we needed. She also set us up with a binder of restaurant suggestions that made dining easy. Our experience was terrific!
This was such a charming cabin, from the tasteful decor to the sparkling clean bathroom to the extra towels stocked on a shelf in case we needed more than 2. We really appreciated the welcome binder of information about Custer. Crystal included her # in case of any issues but we didn’t have any! Such a comfy stay, thank you Crystal!
My husband and I were thoroughly pleased with our stay in every way. Everything was prepared and welcoming when we arrived and the key code check in was super-easy! If you wanted to walk, the location is near enough to downtown, the Custer visitor center and a lovely park but we made quick jaunts in our vehicle so we could shop. :-) We also had the chance to meet the owner which only added to our pleasure of staying. They are hard working and personable and present a great place to stay and enjoy the beautiful area of Custer and the Blackhills! We will stay again, I'm sure!
The property and cabin was just as advertised. Never did speak with the host due to everything was ready and very simple. Fire pit and grill were clean and stocked. Location to town was so close! We will be back.
This property is small but fine for two people who were on the go most of the time. It could feel a little cramped if there were more people or as a place to stay for an extended period during the day. It is a few miles from Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore, so it was in a good spot for our adventures, and easy walking distance to the downtown area. It offered good, basic accommodations without any frills. We have no complaints.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Great base camp location, very small space
Very clean, easy to check in and out. Quiet neighborhood with easy access to all the Black Hills sites. All other visitors were quiet and considerate. Cabin is small and shower is very small. Listing is not clear about the actual size. Larger and/or physically challenged people might have difficulties. 6 adults in this space would be unpleasant.
From check-in to check-out, our stay was perfect. Our cabin was immaculate, 100% as advertised and such a welcome sight as we arrived. We found the location to be quiet and offering easy access to all the places of interest both inside the city of Custer, the state park and in the surrounding area. The owner and property manage, Crystal, was delightful to work with as our dates of stay were adjusted slightly due to a change in our itinerary! After exchanging messages online, we were so happy to have a chance in-person introduction to her one morning as we enjoyed breakfast on our patio. (We cooked several meals and enjoyed having the top quality grilling area available!) We are so happy we chose Ponderosa Place for this trip. We're repeat visitors to Custer and found Ponderosa Place to rank among the very best accommodations we've enjoyed during these travels! Thank you so much!
This was our first trip to Custer and we weren't sure what to expect. We stayed 4 nights in the Buffalo Cabin at Pondeosa Place. We loved it so much we wanted to rearrange the second part of our vacation and stay here longer. The cabins and property are modest but are meticulously cleaned and cared for. We were very surprised at how nice the inside of the cabin is. The furniture, bedding and kitchen all seem new. The entire inside was spotless. The owner is super friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The property is just a couple of blocks from downtown. We walked to everything in town. The town of Custer has a fair share of restaurants, coffee shops and even a brew pub. It never felt crowded and everyone was really friendly. The surrounding area is jaw-droppingly beautiful. We have zero complaints about anything and are already planning our next visit to the Ponderosa Place.
Nice place to stay after a day of exploring South Dakota. A little small for 6 people, but we basically just needed a place to eat and sleep and we had no issues.
