We have a covered front porch for you to sit and relax while you enjoy your morning coffee. The sunroom and back deck offer a nice view of the spacious backyard and where you can listen to the peaceful sounds from the babbling creek. The backyard and creek are a great place to take a stroll, play games, cool off in the water, catch fireflies, or roast marshmallows while gathered around the fire. A gazebo overlooks the creek and cottage offering a place to play games or just sit and relax. The cottage is just a short 2 minute walk from the New River and only a 15 minute drive to the town of West Jefferson where you can find food, shopping, Mt. Jefferson State Park, and Ashe County Cheese. Various river outfitters are close by (10-15 minutes away) where you can rent tubes, canoes, or kayaks. Looking for a day trip during your stay: Grayson Highlands Park, Virginia Creeper Trail, Appalachian State University, Stone Mountain State Park, Tweetsie Railroad, and various ski resorts are all less than an hour away.
The original portion of Baker's Cottage was built in 1935. It has unique characteristics that make it a one of a kind. Most of the ceilings in the house are low, between 6'10" and 7' high. Taller individuals may need to duck when walking through doorways.

Great visit
This was a return visit to the beautiful peaceful cottage. We got to meet Tonya, her husband and Tonya mother. We enjoyed our stay. When we were at the cottage we stayed on the front porch watching the birds and wildlife. We saw dear, squirrels, and we think a bear cub. There were red birds, doves, blue jays, woodpeckers and all kinds of birds. The cottage is so comfortable and cozy. Love the way it is decorated. Will go back to this cottage every chance I get.

Short but Sweet
My husband, son, and I stayed for a few days Easter weekend. We are familiar with the area and always enjoy going into West Jefferson and exploring at the New River State Park (search for the US 221 entrance to find the real park). We were greeted at this adorable cabin with some goodies for ourselves and for our dog, that was an extra nice touch! The cabin was very clean and cozy. Our favorite parts were the creek, the sunroom, and the fire pit. We will definitely look at renting this space again! (To our hosts, we found at least 2 great places to hang a hammock near the creek that would be an added bonus to all of the sweet amenities! wink, wink)

The comfortable furnishings provided the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring the great outdoors. The cottage is well-equipped with modern amenities, including a fully stocked kitchen, making it easy to prepare meals and dine in. The spacious deck was an ideal spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or unwind with a glass of wine. The location of the cottage couldn't be more perfect. The attentive hosts ensured that our stay was nothing short of spectacular, adding little touches like a sweet treat for us and treats for our dogs. Comfort and joy
Even though my stay was short, no amenities were spared. The cottage was warm and cozy, tastefully decorated in the holiday spirit and a cinnamon pecan ring was a nice treat paired with a hot cup of coffee. We never leave disappointed. Looking forward to returning again.

Christmas at the Cottage
Wow, just Wow! My family wanted a mountain getaway to spend some time together for Christmas, and this was the perfect place. When we walked in the door it was an overwhelming feeling of ‘going home’. It was warm, tastefully decorated in general and for the holidays, and full of Christmas spirit. The hosts thought of every detail, including our favorite pastries and treats for our fur babies. They loved the outdoor area and running along the creek, and the sunroom is the ideal spot to unwind and enjoy nature. The cottage was immaculate and the hosts are great folks that have made this an awesome place to vacation.
