The atmosphere is awesome if you like the medieval effect. It can be intimidating if you're more into elegant luxury or shy. The rooms were clean had electricity and the hosts were great. The bed was very large and comfortable. There are many areas to explore on the large property. Some areas are under renovation.
Birdsell Castle exceeded all expectations we had. So much detail had been put into this castle. We were beyond mesmerized. It is very much a labor of love. David, Aaron & Jill are good people. They are so kind and very accommodating. We can’t wait to return in the warmer season and experience the festivities.
A Royal Retreat Worthy of a Storybook Stay My boyfriend and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at this one-of-a-kind castle, and from the moment we arrived, we could see the vision. David, our host, was a fountain of knowledge—thoughtful, engaging, and never overwhelming. His passion for the property shines through in every detail. We explored the dungeon (yes, a dungeon), which was surprisingly fun and atmospheric—though it might be a bit intense for the faint of heart. The beer garden was a personal favorite: relaxed, charming, and perfect for unwinding after a day of adventuring. Our room was spotless and cozy, with just the right balance of medieval flair and modern comfort. What truly made the experience magical was the freedom we felt. We had full reign over the kingdom and could come and go with ease, which was especially appreciated as we juggled our itinerary for my Grammy’s birthday. It felt like stepping into a fairytale—but with WiFi and great hospitality. We’re already dreaming about our next visit and can’t wait to see how this enchanting place continues to grow. If you’re looking for a stay that’s memorable, immersive, and just a little bit legendary—this is it.
So glad we went here for our mini getaway! Definitely a unique place to stay. Room was great and we got to tour other areas in and around the castle. David is a great host and we enjoyed talking with him! Going to try and make it back up for the festival this fall.
If you love the unusual, this is your place! Great “castle” experience and the beauty of southern Indiana horse country! Unique venue close to all the attractions Louisville, KY has to offer and a beautiful, pastoral setting too. The host was very friendly and made us feel welcomed and at home. Highly recommended.
