The Coral Coast is an 80-kilometre expanse of beautiful bays and beaches, lush mangrove forests and spectacular rocky outcrops between the towns of Sigatoka and Pacific Harbour. This stretch is located on the southern coast of Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu, between two of Fiji’s largest cities, Nadi and Suva, and can easily be reached by car from Nadi International Airport. While many visitors stop here to stretch their legs on the drive from Nadi to Suva, it is so much more than just a place to take a break.
The main attraction of the Coral Coast is the coral reef that fringes the shore. It creates a shallow shelf which suddenly drops off into the South Pacific – a truly awe inspiring sight to behold. This shelf is ideal for snorkelling, particularly since there are no boats or dive tanks in the way for you to worry about. Visit Korolevu, one of the most popular snorkelling sites on the coast, to explore the vibrant underwater life on the reef.
There is also an abundance of opportunities for scuba divers. For a chance to get close to up to eight different shark species, as well as a host of other underwater creatures, sign up for one of the world’s best shark dives in Beqa Lagoon.
As well as water-based activities, there are also plenty of land-based activities on offer. Visit the Kula Eco Park for the chance to see, learn about and take photographs of Fiji’s wildlife, including rare, endangered and recovering species.
For those who want to find out about Fijian ecology and history, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park is the attraction to visit. Grab your camera and explore this extensive sand dune system or drop in to the visitor centre to learn about the artefacts dating back thousands of years that have been uncovered here.
The town of Sigatoka is a great place to go to experience a little bit of Fijian culture. Visit the ornate Hare Krishna temple, try some the local cuisine or browse the markets for traditional handicrafts.
