About this property

Cozy Cabin with view

  • Welcome to the Cozy Cabin, a small rustic log cabin tucked against the national forest where mornings begin with coffee on the patio and evenings end under a big starry sky.

If you’re craving fresh air, serenity, and breathtaking scenery—all with the charm of homespun comfort—you’re in the right place. Enjoy a rustic getaway where time slows down, living is easy, and peace and relaxation take over.

    CABIN:
The Cozy Cabin is a simple log cabin, a step back in time to former days as a hunting cabin. Nothing fancy, yet warm and easy. The cabin offers hot/cold water, full fridge, bathroom with a rustic yet hot shower, propane barbecue, fully fenced yard, and more.

    KITCHEN:
The kitchen offers a small sink with potable water, full size fridge with upper freezer, microwave oven, coffee maker, electric hotplate, small toaster oven, pots and pans, plates, mugs, bowels, utensils, and table with two chairs. More seating is available on the patio.

    COOKING:
Guests are welcome to cook with the cast-iron pan right on the woodstove, or use the electric hotplate, microwave or toaster oven, or enjoy the propane BBQ near the front entrance.

    WOODSTOVE:
The woodstove is the sole source of heat, and does a magnificent job. Free firewood, kindling, matches and fire starters are provided.

    FRESH WATER:
An underground spring provides the cabin with fresh potable water straight from the kitchen sink.

    BEDROOM:
The small bedroom offers a 5-drawer dresser and two single beds complete with warm linen.

    BATHROOM:
The rustic bathroom offers a small yet hot shower, towels, shampoo, condition, soap, toilet, and apartment-sized washer and dryer. A sink in the kitchen offers running hot and cold water for brushing your teeth, shaving, etc.

    LAUNDRY:
The apartment-size washer & dryer located in the bathroom is perfect for small loads. Detergent is provided. The compact dryer does best with small loads.

    FOREST ACCESS:
Oxen-Le-Fields Montana offers direct access to the Bitterroot National Forest. Follow the short steep trail behind tent #1. Once it intersects with the dirt road, go either right or left to access miles of incredible scenery. Bear spray and/or gun are strongly recommended.

    PETS:
Pets are welcome. For your convenience, two pet dishes are located on the patio. While pets love to sleep on the bed, the bedding is prone to holes from even well-groomed pet claws. Please use the pup sheet provided to protect the bedding if your pup likes to snuggle with you. When outside the fence, please keep your pets on a lead to avoid disturbing other campers and keep them from chasing the free-range chickens (thank you!).

    HOT SPRINGS:
Enjoy a soak at Lost Trails Hot Springs 8 miles south for just $10.

    FISHING:
Blue-ribbon trout are abundant in both the Bitterroot and Big Hole rivers. Bitterroot fishing access is available all along the Hwy 93 corridor. Four miles north of Darby lies Lake Como where fishing, swimming, and other water activities are enjoyed by all who visit.

    HUNTING:
Oxen-Le-Fields is located in district 270 next to districts 240, 250, and 321.

    SKIING:
A short 16 miles to the south sits Lost Trail Ski Resort, home to 69 runs. Sitting atop the Continental Divide on Highway 93 where Montana and Idaho meet, Lost Trail boasts over 300 inches of snowfall every year for enthusiasts to enjoy.

    MANAGEMENT:
Owners live on site. If you need assistance, we're happy to help.

    CAMP:
Situated on 6 acres in the southern end of the beautiful Bitterroot valley in western Montana, Oxen-Le-Fields was created by Lynda Cheldelin Fell and her husband Jamie as a small homestead they decided was too pretty not to share.

Named after Jamie's paternal family estate in England, Oxen-Le-Fields is a work in progress. Purchased in 2023, it started with a cozy cabin with magnificent views flanked by the national forest. In the summer of 2024, Jamie erected two 12 x 14 cabin tents, both with a stunning view of Sula Peak.

In the short time since opening in September 2024, campers from around the world have stayed at Oxen-Le-Fields Montana, including Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, England, Ireland, Italy, Sri Lanka, France, Australia, Singapore, China, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, India, Canada, Japan, Czech Republic, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.

    ABOUT US:
Jamie & Lynda live on site in their toy hauler with plans to break ground for a family lodge in 2027.

Parents of four and grandparents of two, Jamie suffered a major stroke at the young age of 46, forcing him to retire from an accomplished career in commercial development. Lynda is an accomplished grief and trauma educator, and author of over 40 books including the award-winning Grief Diaries anthology series.

With a love for camping coupled with Jamie's construction background, they set their hearts on creating a small homestead camp so others can experience what they enjoy every day . . . fresh air, lots of sunshine, abundant wildlife, a night sky filled with bright stars, and a relaxed way of life.

Best Place I have stayed with the most beautiful views!

myself and my two sons stayed at the cabin while elk hunting. I was not able to hunt with them so I was at the cabin most all day. When I say cabin I mean it was more like being part of the surrounding mountains and part of nature, It is beautiful. The cabin was so comfy and had a cabin feel as well as so many windows to view the surrounding area in a state of AWE! all the little things in the cabin were so cool like soap, fire starters, hot chocolate, candy and so much more. also there are plenty of areas to take short or long walks in the woods. The hosts were the most outstanding people ever. Just great people who want you to have the greatest experience ever. Thanks Lynda!!!! we will definitely stay there again and stay either in the cabin or great tent setup that you have. 10++++

This cabin was adorable and so well stocked. It had everything we wanted or needed to make our stay pleasant. The bedding was so beyond comfortable, the woodstove kept it warm and cozy, and the view was amazing. Close to a lot of roads and trails to explore. The host gave us helpful recommendations on places to go. Definitely recommend staying here and we hope to come back.

What a great place!!

This was a weekend getaway for my wife’s birthday and even though it rained pretty much the entire time, this place has everything we needed. Lynda was such a wonderful host and made us feel welcome right away. We were able to relax and enjoy our stay. I would rate this place in the top 5 I have ever been to. If you want peace and quiet this is it! Leave the distractions at home and enjoy Gods beauty all around.i would recommend this to anyone!!!

Genuine Hospitality

Welcoming, available, kind and thoughtful. Rarely do I get to say those things about a place I stay. However, this little cabin experience was just what was needed. I look forward to returning. I can definitely say that my stay here was a big part of the success in my trip. Thank you.
