  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Has smoke area in back and front swimming is where I was omw back to. Very clean stay... pool clean and warm breakfast wonderful pancakes omlete everything biscuit gravy even though i dont eat pork it looked fabulous. Definitely woild go back anytime i need to stay at hotel

The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a nice big sink counter and you had room to move in it. The breakfast was very good with many hot and cold options including two types of omelets, pancakes and hot cinnamon rolls. There was a big area to eat breakfast also. The only issue which luckily we didn't have trouble with was several pickup trucks in the parking lot had windows broken out sometime during the night.

The staff at this hotel are truly kind and hospitable, which made our stay so much more pleasant. The property is well kept and also recently renovated. They offer a tangible hot breakfast served with a pleasant smile. From the front desk to wait staff and housekeeping, service with excellence is offered. There is only one opportunity to make a first impression and you all made a lasting one. Will return to this hotel once I am in the area. Thanks so much for a lovely stay at your hotel.

Check-in was easy; the lobby felt safe/secure; the staff was friendly and provided free water bottles. My only complaint is that we did not get to enjoy the pool, but at the same time I appreciate it was closed for cleaning, to ultimately benefit the health and safety of the guests. No pool is better than an unclean pool
