German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown Columbus, OH. Initially platted in 1814 in Columbus' South End, German Village was generally developed between years 1840 and 1914. It was settled largely by German immigrants in the mid-1800s. German descendants at one time comprised as much as one-third of the population of Columbus. Restoration began in 1959 and the Historic District was established in 1963. German Village was the FIRST historic district in the U.S. and it remains a model for all that came after. In the year 1974, German Village joined the Historic Register. Today, more than 1,600 preservations have been completed.
Purdy Haus dates to at least the year 1910 when it was occupied by a woodworker/barber George C. McMillin. Nearby homes date between years 1884 and 1888, so it may be older.
Walk everywhere - sidewalks are wide - people are warm - parks and restaurants are plentiful! And German Village is central to everything in Columbus.
Schlage keypad instructions will come separately. Guests have use of entire house! Let us be your home away from home!

Our cottage's architecture is known as a "story-and-a-half vernacular". It has two levels with two bedrooms in what was once a single upper open loft/sleeping area. We recently split the sleeping area into 2 private bedrooms with a new wall and door and additional A/C unit. The ceiling on this level follows the slope of the roof, common in German Village cottages. The main living area sofa can be converted into a full size bed too (bedding in inner compartment).
The sleeping arrangements can accommodate 6, plus the bonus of a pack-n-play for a young child/infant.
A full laundry is on the lower level in the historic basement; basic detergent/dryer sheets provided. Watch your head and step down the old cement stairs (used to be on the exterior - the old "storm" cellar)!
If dark, please touch the Schlage logo on the electronic lock to light the keypad!

Welcome to the historic German Village neighborhood and this historic property! This is a historic property with its historic idiosyncrasies, especially its story-and-a-half vernacular architecture and exposed brick walls but also its steep, narrow staircase characteristic of the 1880s. The old storm cellar access has been enclosed but those stairs are the original cement. Baby gates are available. We stayed with our two young children at this little home in German Village. The location can't be beat. We loved walking the neighborhood and discovering all of the small shops and restaurants and visiting the local parks. It was convenient to highways to travel around the area, too. As mentioned in the listing, the house is older, which meant thin walls through which sound traveled really easily. When the kids went to bed, the adults needed to be quiet. The house is small, so there wasn't a lot of space for the kids to move around and play but the price was great and overall met our needs. Our hosts were friendly and responsive.
Wonderful stay getting to see family and friends—lovely home, fully equipped (made dinner for my Mom while I was here) and such a great location, so many walkable places nearby. Highly recommend!
Great location! Very cute house - well-appointed & clean. Would definitely stay. My only suggestions would be to fix the few cabinets with broken doors in the kitchen and maybe a few smaller blankets for getting cozy on the couch.
Very clean, had all the supplies and amenities we could need. Location in German Village is awesome! Historic neighborhood with red brick roads, old fashioned narrow lanes, historic homes. Walkable to wonderful shops and restaurants in German Village. We had a wonderful long weekend celebrating our daughter's college graduation!
Wonderful hosts. German Village is a great location to stay. And the accommodations were as advertised. Very comfortable with everything we needed. Would stay on another trip at this property.
We went for my husbands birthday weekend and couldn’t have asked for a better location, didn’t need to drive all weekend, just walked to all of the best coffee shops and restaurants German village has. We were able to bring our dog which was the cherry on top, as he loved playing in Schiller park. The house was perfect for our little family!
We came to stay here for a concert at A an r music bar. And are headed south to Nashville right afterwards. The place was clean exactly what we expected and in a great location. Cute neighborhood too!
A great location in German village. Historic home with everything you need. A home away from home. When we come back to Columbus we'll definitely stay here again. Thank you!
We really enjoyed our stay. We met up with our daughter, passing through from Dover AFB to Wichita Falls TX for training. Small, but cozy. We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurant. Neighbors, for that matter, everyone was so kind. Absolutely recommend.
The place was cozy and comfortable. The location was perfect. We were able to walk our dogs two blocks to the park each day which was very helpful. The restaurants were within walking distance and space for parking within the neighborhood was always available.

Everything felt so clean and cute, very comfortable beds, we really loved the fans upstairs for noise, lots of good info in their binder and very easy to park! Super happy!
The property was as advertised. Very clean and cozy. The German Neighborhood is very unique and fun to walk. The host was very responsive and checked in during our stay to see if we needed anything. Highly recommended!
This house worked perfectly for what we needed. We were in town for Thanksgiving and needed a place that was close to family who lived about a mile away. We walked to the Schiller park and our four year old had a blast. Parking on the street was never a problem and quite close to the house. Overall it was exactly what we needed and it worked great for our stay.
We thoroughlyl enjoyed our stay. The home is quaint and nicely restored and decorated. The kitchen was nicely furnished and the bedding and towels were very nice. Even with one bathroom for 3 adults and one kid, we did just finne and had room for ourselves or to be together. We had a minor situation wtih a low battery on a smoke detector and the host was very responsive even when I called after 10 pm to ask about it. Overall a great little spot convenient to a lot of neat things and an area that is wonderful for walking. The park that is close by is huge and beautiful!
Lovely little home in a charming neighborhood but not for senior citizens
This little house is very clean and neat, has excellent plumbing and appliances, comfortable firm beds, and is in the charming German Village area with its interesting variety of 19th century homes. The owners are very good at communicating and are most gracious and helpful. One important caveat, though. This is not a place for senior citizens or anyone who isn't in good physical shape to stay in. The bedrooms are on the second floor while the single bathroom is on the first floor down an old winding wooden staircase. Hard for us seniors who need to get up in the middle of the night to relieve ourselves. And the bathroom is extremely narrow and has only two hooks on which to hang towels or washcloths. The staircase to the second-floor bedrooms make it extremely difficult to get a large, heavy suitcase up there. No problem if you're traveling fairly light, but we were driving back from three months down south, headed home to Michigan, so we had really large suitcases which we had to leave down in the living room. The washer and dryer are very good but are in the basement, with another staircase to manage. No problem for younger, fit people, but not ideal for older folks. The heat has to be set no higher than 68, which is fine for the first floor. But given the drafty nature of an old house like that, it's quite cold upstairs during the winter. Younger folks would enjoy this place but older folks with any kind of physical issues should rent another place.
