About this property
Gunado - a cosy kiwi bach.
The bach is nestled among mature totara trees and is home to many native birds. It has a lovely open garden and an extensive view across the estuary which will fill up during spring high tides. It is only a 30 second walk across the other side of the road to a very safe swimming beach.
There are two kayaks to use and the garden and estuary are interesting safe places for children to play while parents sit and relax on the deck.
The living area is open and cosy with an efficient wood burner to keep the house warm in the winter months. There are two good sized bedrooms that look across the estuary and are both light and well insulated; the larger bedroom has double glazing. A new bathroom has been recently added to the bach and the living room extended.
It is a great place to escape and relax and offers long beach walks where you can observe the many wading birds, collect shellfish or just beach fossick. There are many beautiful natural locations nearby to visit by car including Wharariki beach which is only a 20 minute drive. Whatever you choose to do you will come home feeling better for taking the time to stay here. Special conditions: The house is very suitable for couples or a small family. The deck is less than a meter high and has not got railings, therefore would not be suitable for a toddler or baby without supervision.
During the peak summer season a minimum booking for 2 nights is required.
Extras: Cleaning (Optional, NZ$80.00 per stay); Linen (Optional, NZ$20.00 per bed);

We had a most enjoyable stay. The location and facilities were first class and prior to our stay our host answered all queries promptly. Highly recommended.
Great spot for exploring Golden Bay, or just to stay put
This was our third stay at Gunado, it's a great spot for a break. Ideally located for visiting places like Wharariki, Milnethorpe Bush, or Westhaven Inlet, but equally easy to just sit on the deck and watch the tide come in and out
A firm family favourite - we love staying at Gunado for the cozy space, endless opportunities to play in the estuary, peacefulness and as a great base for adventures in the area. Thanks again Jennifer, we are already looking forward to our next visit!
A wonderful bach in a beautiful location. Fantastic bird life, great views over the estuary and easy access to the beach for exploring. Thank you for a lovely stay

The bach was delightful. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and beautiful views. Such a lovely setting amongst trees overlooking the inlet with easy access to the beach. It is also very well located for day trips around Farewell Spit and Wharariki Beach.
The host was very responsive and warm, making communication a breeze. Instructions were clear and comprehensive.
Thankyou for providing a wonderful "bolt hole".
The property has everything you need. Books, DVD's and firewood were thoughtfully provided for those rainy days, and canoes for beach weather. A very peaceful setting amongst the trees so easy to destress.
Excellent location which was peaceful and lovely. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook many of our meals.Great walking beach. Reasonably priced and responsive owner of the property.
A very well setup cosy place with some well thought out renovations. We loved the location and view across the inlet to the ranges and the birdsong when we woke up in the morning. The setting is amazing, on a spit tucked in amongst the Totara.
This is the third time we have stayed. We find the position very relaxing with lots of bird life and walks along the beach. The size of the Bach is ideal for us and is very well equipped.
Beautiful, quiet spot in Golden Bay. Photos don't do this place justice. Really cute and comfortable cottage. Hours of fun to be had exploring the estuary on the doorstep and only a minute walk to the beach. Easy access to Farewell spit, Wharariki beach, Collingwood and Takaka. Loved our stay.
The property is beautiful and well set up for summer or winter. It is comfortable classy kiwiana and very homely and had everythimg we needed. The setting is stunning with an outlook to the inlet and the bush clad hills behind. The beach accross the road is so peaceful and Golden Bay gorgeous with sometimes only us on it. Thank you for a great stay.

Well equipped Bach and very comfortable. Having a washing machine was helpful. We couldn’t work out how to connect to the tv but that was probably our technological capabilities. Enjoyed reading the books on local history. Very helpful neighbours helped us make contact with host as we didn’t receive the email about how to get into the premises. Thanks for the apology.
We enjoyed another wonderful stay. The bach was perfect. Loved the native birds, tūīs, wood pigeons, fantails in the avenue and garden. A very special place. Thank you
We had the best relaxation time here!
We had an adventure in the Kajaks, and most of all
Wonderful sleeps in
good beds, kitchen well equipped and clean, practical environments.
Best wishes

A lovely bach and a lovely holiday! The house is well serviced and super clean, we were amazed at how much kitchen stuff there was. Jenifer was great to deal with and super accommodating. There’s no wifi but that’s a blessing, me and my partner spent 5 days listening to the birds, kayaking, hiking and enjoying the beach. Our only issue was a lack on pantry space which was fine, we rearranged the plates a little to make space (it is a bach after all).We will be back that’s for sure!
