Cozy Vintage Cabin on Lake Pokegama & MTB Trails
This cozy cabin is a tribute to days gone by when the cabin was just a place to keep your duffle and the real fun was on the dock, around the fire pit, and cooling off in the lake. We've added some modern comforts (even a TV!), but you still get that rustic experience of getting back to the basics that has captured the hearts of travelers for generations.
CABIN The large windows have exceptional lake views and let in natural light all day long. The kitchen is well stocked- expect everything you need, but you'll never hear us describe it as 'luxury'. There is indoor and outdoor dining space. One bedroom has a king bed, the other bedroom has a built-in queen bed. There is a large heater the keeps the cabin toasty all winter (the floor stays cool, so slippers are recommended). The boathouse is not heated. The boathouse is usable through May-October, it's not heated.
We do our absolute best to keep pests outside, but the 1950's cabin construction is not bug-tight.
PROPERTY The property is very quiet and tucked away on a dead-end road across from the Tioga Rec Area (home to world class MTB trails, hiking, mine-pit swimming, snowshoeing, and fat-biking!). The nearest trail access is just a minute ride from your doorstep. South facing views from the elevated property look out onto Pokegama's largest bay and you can catch sunrises and sunsets from the cabin. Other outdoor amenities include a firepit, free firewood for bonfires and sauna, gas grill, and screen porch. There are seasonal neighbors on both sides, but most guests say that it feels very private.
LAKEFRONT There is a short set of stairs down to the lake. We have a dock with space to park your boat. The lake is clear and clean with a sandy bottom, pebble shoreline, and views that stretch for miles. Enjoy both the sunrises and sunsets over beautiful Sugar Bay.
SAUNA The 4 person cedar barrel sauna is wood fired. It's a short walk down the stairs to the lake for post-sauna dips.

Beautiful property! Quaint cabin in the woods on a lake. Full kitchen with all I needed to cook meals. This will become an annual retreat space for me.
I love this quaint, cozy cabin—such a wonderful space for a retreat. The amenities were perfect. The kitchen had everything I needed to cook meals. The bed was comfy and I looked forward to the hot showers after being outside hiking on the trails in the woods. Awesome Getaway!
Our family has never stayed more than one time at a Vrbo property, EXCEPT this one. We stayed 5 days longer than we did last vacation and our kids still cried when we had to go home 😆. The perfect space for our family to enjoy the bike trails and the lake. The communication is exceptional. The space is clean and has everything we need. Cant wait to come back.
The cabin is a small, quaint peaceful northern Minnesota lake place. We loved using the kayaks, paddle boards and fishing from the dock. There was a pontoon available for renting, but we did not feel confident in our driving skills and so did not try. There is a lovely screen porch to sit in while enjoying your morning coffee and listening to the loons. The fire ring and chairs were great with a view overlooking the lake. Several mornings we walked down the road and felt safe doing so, traffic is slow, and it is a lovely road enveloped by trees. The fall foliage would be amazing!
Each day we saw deer, a mother and twins and even saw a buck once. We also saw an eagle from our kayaks and were told they had a nest in a nearby tree. Emily was easy to contact and was a good communicator. My teens sang praises of the Wi-Fi strength with no issues. As I said the cabin is small, but with the screened porch our family loved it. The location is so quiet and the chairs and little room by the lake were a great addition. The steps down to the lake are a bit steep and uneven-but doable for our family. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a farmers' market in nearby Grand Rapids, and they have an awesome taco truck. Overall, we loved our stay at the cabin and would recommend it!
Very quaint and lovely location and cabin on the water. We didn't use the pontoon or kayaks, but having those available for guests is absolutely amazing. The wood burning sauna is a great treat and added plus to the stay.
However, one word of advice to people looking to stay - there is VERY limited space for your luggage and personal items. The main bedroom with the queen bed should be switched with the bedroom with the two twin beds since that room is larger. There is zero space in the master room as the bed takes up 85% of the room. There is small closet, but hardly any room for your luggage or to hang anything.
The bed is said to be a queen, but felt like an oversized twin and was a very old mattress that was not comfortable. Neither myself or my lady had a good sleep unfortunately our entire stay. The bedrooms do not have AC, so I also suggest keeping the AC unit in the common area on, with bedroom doors open to get some comfort in the rooms. We didn't need heat, but I am unsure if these cabins are heated at all, it didn't look to be the case, I would double check before purchasing your trip.
It would be a 5 out of 5, but they should definitely put some upgrades in the cabin/house. The sink and faucet needs to be replaced and better water pressure in the house. The microwave is very old and needs to be replaced along with all the beds and box strings. If you like SPACE and need to store/access luggage I would suggest looking at other options. Great place though!
The cabin felt very private and the west facing view from the huge window was beautiful. The beds were comfortable and loved the coffee service. It was a very nice space1
Me and my partner stayed here for the weekend and it was really lovely! There are a lot of different spots to spend time, the beach, the sauna, the porch, etc. and each was really enjoyable.
What a beautiful spot! I couldn’t get enough of sitting in the screened-in porch and watching the fall leaves, the lake, and the birds. The stay was incredibly peaceful and quiet. The cabin had everything we needed, including delicious Fika coffee to enhance the porch-sitting. The sauna heated up quickly and was the perfect way to start the day. Sunsets from the beach chairs were magnificent. The cozy living room was the perfect spot to play some evening board games. Our only regret was that we didn’t book it for long enough. Next time we will stay longer!
Our Host was prompt with responses to questions. This was most meaningful. The main cabin was charming and lake view was awesome. As a rustic older cabin, it has been lovingly kept up. We were not able to use the quaint boathouse because temps had dropped and it is not heated. The rainy weather kept us inside. However, the spacious living area gave us ample room to hang out and we were close to Grand Rapids and Cohasset to enjoy other entertainment avenues. No regrets. Hope to book again.
Layout of cabin was perfect for us! Open air feel with screen porch, fire pit a few steps away and an awesome wood burning sauna!Mama loon with baby loon on her back while Papa loon called out. Water clarity was ideal for swimming! Beautiful sunshine from morning, noon and night! Definitely coming back!!!
This property is perfect for anyone looking for a clean, cute cabin with a quiet location. My sister and I spent 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. We caught lots of fish off the dock, but unfortunately none of them were keepers. It was fun anyhow doing catch and release. The boathouse by the lake is a nice addition to hang out in. I look forward to returning to this cabin someday.
We had a fabulous time! The setting is absolutely perfect - everything you would want in a north woods cabin! The screened patio was a great place to eat, drink, and the enjoy the amazing view of Lake Pokegama! We plan on booking again!
This cabins location is unbeatable. Amazing biking trails and lake access all without having to drive from the cabin. The cabin was everything that our family needed. Clean, comfortable eith the added bonus of kayaks and the use of the boat house. It felt like everything a quintessential Minnesota get-away should be. Our family cant wait to go back.
We loved this place! The decoration and furniture were perfect. It had 2 fire pits and a beautiful second dwelling right by the lake. We would love to return.
My husband and I were looking for a quiet weekend away to relax and unplug. This cabin was very quaint and exactly what we needed. While it rained all weekend, we were not able to fully enjoy all the amenities like kayaking or access the hiking trails. But we did have bonfires by the lake. Overall, would recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet retreat!
This simple lake cottage ticked all the boxes for us: clean, well appointed, serene location, and easy, easy, easy. Immersed in gorgeous nature and so quiet and peaceful you won’t believe it. Loved it.
Property sits high up on Pokegama Lake providing great views of the lake and passing soaring eagles. Even though neighboring lots are near, it is quite private as neighbors were seldom or never seen. Our dogs loved the area to play and really loved chasings frog on the beach. The cabin is older
and does have it's charms such as small bedrooms, bathroom and resident ants, but thankfully one of our teenage sons moved into the boat house and loved it. Porch area was great for morning coffee and evening drinks. Communication with owner was prompt and thorough.
The property was very private considering it's on Pokegama. Our dog loved it. It's an older cabin with small bedrooms, but the property, beach and boat house were great for us.
This cabin takes full advantage of wide lake views. The furnishings are edited and appropriate for the space. We loved the comfy furniture and beds. Kitchen and bath are very small but right for the space and you have all you need. Due to unseasonably cold/snowy weather we didn't get to take advantage of fire pits or boat house. Owners were very responsive and helpful.
Great base camp for our small group of bird hunters which included 3 adults and 2 kids. The main cabin fit us all just fine and we didn't utilize the boathouse, however it looked like a nice addition for a summer time stay. Outdoor temps got below 30 degrees at night and we got about 4 inches of snow one day - the big heater kept the cabin warm and comfortable the entire time.
We cooked meals with our harvest each night and the kitchen was not overstocked with tools and utensils, but it had all the right ones, including decent knives and a knife sharpener - an important oversight at most rental places in my opinion as someone who likes to cook when at the cabin.
Communication from the owner was always timely and great. We highly recommend.
