The quiet, wooded location of Haus Bindseil invites to hiking in summer and cross-country skiing on the nearby trails in winter. The formerly free mountain town of Altenau is a health resort on the foothills of the Bruchberg and equally popular with active and recreational holiday makers in both winter and warmer seasons. Altenau is an ideal starting point for hikes on the extensive and well signposted network of hiking trails around the city and in the Harz National Park
